How should a Picard series go?

This is kind of a small detail, but I hope Humanity in the Picard Series is portrayed a little bit differently than in Discovery. With its 23rd Century Setting, it makes sense for the crew of Discovery to not act like the crew of the Enterprise-D. But, at the turn of the 25th Century, they probably actually still have some of that stubborn "we're evolved!" attitude. Even after the Borg and Dominion. It would make them look hypocritical but at least that could be pointed out by other races as a flaw that Humans of this time have.

I view the Federation of the TNG Era as something that became a little too comfortable with itself. Which explains both the change in mentality and why the technological differences between the 23rd and 24th Centuries never seemed as pronounced as they probably should've been. They're content, they slowed down. Then they were caught unprepared, as both TNG ("Q Who?") and DS9 ("The Jem'Hadar") showed.

While I'd love to see an aged Picard battling iromodic syndrome, the series is an ongoing show rather than a miniseries, so I don't see that happening.

Hopefully this is dropped without referance or passing comment. The meaningless superiority complex was one of Picard's worse personal attributes.

That is a great point. Despite being a rather odd episode "He who is without sin" in DS9 addressed it kind of, but was left rather untouched.

Hopefully, there is a bit of a balance between the presentation in Discovery and the evolved sensibility presented in TNG.

This is why I wouldn't mind if they had the Federation in a dystopian place for this series. It would give Picard a chance to earn the idealistic society that he represented, rather than take it for granted.

I wouldn't mind that either, and to my mind one idea is Star Trek: Reconstruction, with take aways from WW2 and the American Civil War in terms of rebuilding the society after the devastation of the Dominion War.

I would've liked to have seen that, but too much time has passed. They still might not have the same outlook as before, but the Federation and the Klingons should be long-recovered from the Dominion War by 2399. The Cardassians are a different story.

I'd be nice to see Cardassians in Starfleet at this time, who grew up with Federation aid after the war. This is how its gone down in the books, with both actual Academy graduates and through the Officer Exchange Program. They also adopted shorter and more varied haircuts, moving away from the look associated with the former military government.

Well, that could be part of it. Part of my idea is utilizing a more frontier feel and the reconstruction and expansion efforts could include mending relationships with the Cardassians, and the Romulans after the supernova.

I honestly would prefer it be less internally focused, within the Federation, and more set on the outer fringes of Federation space and in to new territory-like the New West.

I would pitch my idea as "Star Trek: New Frontier" but that's been taken

Wow, I would love for the day when the uniforms doesn't appear like patch work inspired by Star Wars. I miss the near seamless costume work from TOS and parts of TNG. I can only suspect the Picard show will have more superfluous material and zigzags on the costumes. Bleh!

Before the Kelvin timeline has permanently set into place, Picard has Geordi make chronometric modifications on a scout ship (from Insurrection) to allow quick and dirty time travel, the same mods they used to easily return to the 24th century in First Contact. He's waiting the moment Nero exits the time vortex in the 23rd century. One quantum torpedo salvo later, Nero is nothing but ionized vapor and Vulcan is safe. Picard decides to remain in the 23rd century, where he adopts the name Leon de Grance and uses his knowledge of the future to become commandant of Starfleet Academy. There, he secretly shepherds the promising careers of some young cadets as well as whispering in influential ears at Starfleet Command, sort of like how Mr. Tideman wields a lot of power in The Final Countdown. For instance, when Captain Pike is promoted off the Enterprise, Picard suggests Kirk as a candidate for his replacement. When a young Japanese physicist is assigned to the Enterprise, Picard pushes for him to go to command school, where he will train to be a helmsman and eventually get command of his own ship decades later. Oh, and he hires a young man named Boothby to be groundskeeper at the Academy.

How it should NOT go is some depressing nonsense.

My DREAM scenario is Picard is leading a federation diplomatic team which is helping with the construction of New Romulus after the destruction of Old Romulus, you can have Sela leading a seperatist group that is really against the main romulan government which has changed its ways in the wake of destruction and deciding to be more open and co-operative with the other alpha quadrant powers. Plenty of hijinks can ensue, and Picard can zip around in a small ship from time to time to deal with "stuff" in between dealing with all the rebuild.

Also Picard is given a young unruly romulan girl to work with who is a science genius and knows all about the environment on new Romulus, she lost her parents during a terrorist raid by sela and resents picard and the federation for causing it. Picard finds her grumpy and annoying and we can have some witty banter.

Over time though they grow closer and she comes to see picard as a surrogate father by the end of the series run. Picard starts the show alone and just focusing on his work but he comes to see her as a surrogate daughter and she fills the void in his heart and in the final scene they walk through the new vinyard picard now owns in france and picard teaches her freres jacques

You can introduce new characters and lay a groundwork for a new flagship based show which is more in line with "classic trek" while having a really cool and different show in the meantime.
