I think I just need to take a step back from the whole ordeal. I'm clearly not objective, and soon we'll find out if anything any of us are feeling is warranted.

I'll say this; Monday, I fully predict about half the posts to be "Damn, that was awesome!" and about a third to be "sorry, it's at least as bad as I thought, maybe worse".

So, like nearly every other Post on this BBS after the premiere of a new incarnation/outing of Star Trek (be it a feature film, or Series)...Got it.

I did have some mild concerns about the show (cause you never know it could suck), but now that all the twitter activity from the pre-screenings has pretty much been universally positive I'd say they're gone.

Now all I really hope for....is good stories....not caged up in the ususal way of the old stuff.
It is a big universe, and there is enough stuff to feed into interesting ideas and such!

It looks very promising though...and make it move beyond just Trek....
Like some of the things that worked on DS-9...

I just watched the last three new behind the scenes videos, and in the Geogiou video they actually showed her joking around with the crew on the bridge. That alone did a lot to alleviate some of my concerns. The last few clips have seemed to be showing more of the lighter side of the show and that is starting to make me feel better overall.
We're one day away now, and I couldn't be more excited.

I've seen some trek fans (like in the audience at fanexpo) blindly defending this series out of brand loyalty. That's commendable.

Personally, I have concerns about STD. However, I grew up in the TNG/DS9/Voy era and have already experienced Trek at it's best. If STD sucks, it really isn't that big of a deal. Nothing good lasts forever.

The only positive about STD not meeting expectations is Karma for Paramount and their terrible handling of the fanfilm controversy.

Since they feel dropping the F-bomb is no big deal, my outlook is now completely negative. I'll turn my attention elsewhere. This is not my Star Trek.

I was really excited before the announcement the Michael Burnham/ Sarek connection. After that my hopes have gotten really low sadly. I am still hopeful and will watch the pilot tomorrow. Unfortunately it's all I'll be able to see since I don't have CBS All access.

I'm incredibly excited! A new era of episodic Star Trek begins in less than 24 hours, after a 12 year absence. It has a great cast, a huge budget, and behind the scenes people who really seem to love Trek. Woo-hoo!

I don't wish to seem critical of the views of anyone here, nor do I have any wish to draw criticism to myself, by what I'm about to write. However, this is just a simple fact:

I have neither positive nor negative feelings about Discovery. I find that I'm completely indifferent.

Yes, I can understand someone being excited about the return of first-run episodes of a series that has the words Star Trek in the title; I've seen the premiere episodes of all the previous series (including the cartoon) first-run, except for the original series (I came in at "Spock's Brain," which at least was a season premiere).

But it's been many years since I tuned in to the premiere episode of any TV series, and I don't think I'm alone in becoming detached from following any series, serialized or otherwise. That is, I'm content to wait until a given series has established itself as worth my time - usually after it's out of production, as it turns out - and in the meantime I'm enjoying being productive in different ways, sometimes with a TV show in the background (which is not at all the same kind of TV viewing).

One of the key reasons I'm looking forward to it is it feels different. In the same way that TNG was different to TOS. Enterprise, despite being a prequel show itself, felt very similar to TNG Trek in style and tone (partly due to the time it was made and partly because the franchise was stuck on autopilot).

So yeah, I'm looking forward to something new. Even if it does end up being another branch of the Star Trek universe.

I am eagerly awaiting tomorrow when the premiere becomes available on Netflix. I've got the popcorn all ready to go, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the episode! I'll deconstruct it later on, tomorrow is all about simply enjoying Trek being back on mainstream-ish T.V.

People who have had an early viewing seem to really like it, even stating that it is much better then the reboot movies. This has given me some hope. I am working the night shift tonight so I am going to have to force myself to stay awake in the morning to see it.
