I am quite surprised by the number of people here who've never been drunk.
I have to say that I'm pretty surprised myself. I know that my problem is that I like the feeling of still being in complete control and feeling "normal" and I have zero desire to feel what the next day feels like after getting drunk. However, it certainly seems like I am on my own amongst the people I know as far as a lack of desire to drink goes. I figured it would be close to unanimous drinkers here.I am quite surprised by the number of people here who've never been drunk.
My worst drunk experience was about 7 months ago after my last day at my job. I'm convinced there was something wrong with my drinks because I had only been drinking for about 30 minutes before I blacked out. I wasn't even tipsy yet, and the next thing I knew it was 5pm the following day, and I was waking up on my couch with my shoes still on. I could not believe how shitty I felt. I seriously think I was poisoned.
If you consistently drink to get drunk even if its not every day then you are an alcoholic...
I'm 20 and I've never gotten drunk solely because I'm very worried it'd replace a previous addiction I had. Believe me, I've considered it during a few instances of intense depression.
I'm 59, and I've never been drunk in my life. Used to have an occasional drink, but in 1988 I started taking meds that don't mix well w/ alcohol, and I haven't had one since.
Drinking because you're depressed is the worst reason to drink (not to say I haven't done it, though). If you ever want to try alcohol, it's best to do so only in moderation when in a good mood. Otherwise, the risk of using it as a crutch or addiction increases dramatically.

Depends, they've divided the category from "alcoholism" to "alcohol dependence" and "alcohol abuse", and the criteria has changed over the years, but basically the the fact remains if you consistently HAVE to get drunk (ie: binge drink, but do not get drunk all the time; drink periodically to get drunk even every other weekend)you have a problem because it establishes a pattern..and even these periodic drinkers often HAVE to drink more to get buzzed. If you consistently drink to get drunk even if its not every day then you are an alcoholic...
No, what you're describing is alcohol abuse, or, perhaps, nothing. Alcoholism, clinically, is defined as your body needing alcohol to function properly. If you consistently get drunk on weekends, you are not an alcoholic. Alcohol abuse is clinically defined as the habit of drinking alcohol in a way that negatively impacts regular social or societal behaviour or expectations.
You can consistently drink to get drunk and not suffer from alcohol abuse or alcoholism. Otherwise, you'd be implying that a vast number of 16-25 years olds are alcoholics.
Yeah, RAMA is just a wimp. And yeah I would say that to his face. Really.I swear.
I would.

I'm on some too and a friend is like "you shouldn't drink with those", but I never heard that but shouldn't you not get drunk or drink too much as a general rule?![]()
