Point taken. But the complaint that they weren't seen in A New Hope is still comparible.
And I say DSC is 3 seasons. I much prefer long form anthology style. I like a plotted out end point.
the issue with continual seasons will be tied to the absolutely absurd decision to put it on CBS all-access. If it doesn't do well, CBS will cancel it and blame lack of support and then shelve any TV series indefinitely.
Star Trek has yet to be 'shelved' indefinitely. Hell, there has never been more than a 5 year gap between a major Star Trek TV or Film project since the original series was canceled in 1969; and there was some form of Star Trek on the air from 1987 - 2005 (18 years straight).
As long as it's necessary to resolve the planned plotline(s) without cutting it short and leaving it unresolved but at the same time without unnecessary expanding and inflating it with inane b-plots if it's successful. In other words... Stick to the plan!

I think we'll get 5 seasons of Discovery and a 2nd Star Trek TV series set after Nemesis during the 3rd or 4th season of Discovery.
Gee, do you think the bridge sets on Discovery will have chairs, and consoles, and blinking lights?
I think Discovery will have ALL these things.
That's... not exactly the point I was making, but honestly, don't virtually all sci-fi (or even present day) bridge sets have those things?
It remains to be seen whether it's a good decision or not.
In any case Discovery will most likely end up being the Star Trek show with the lowest number of episodes.

I'm hoping for two or three because I think that's enough time to tell some really good stories and then wrap it up before people get bored or want to move on. And I know this won't happen but I'm kind of hoping they could just continue on to another series straight after, kind of like what Doctor Who does.
Some responses seem to assume that it will be one continuous story while others assume it'll be different stories for each episode, strange. Very few people mentioned which style they'd prefer.

We know its serialized. Which means no filler to hit x episodes a season. Which one is part of the same arch. With such shows, you get no filler.
You're acting like "filler" necessarily has to be bad content.
Some of the best content can be quirky or interesting stand-alone stories.
