How many seasons do you think Fringe will last?

Joe Washington

I was wondering this after watching the season finale. How much time do you think it'll take for Fringe to complete its story? More than three? Less than seven?

They'll run it until it stops getting good ratings. It's definitely got an open ended premise. Most TV shows seem to be running 5-6 years nowadays if they're good.

Well, for me it really depends on the writing. After the first few episodes, it felt like nothing but a bad X-Files rip-off, but Hubby LOVED it, so we continued to watch. The last few episodes have now really piqued my interest; I'm actually looking forward to now seeing more.

If they can keep that level of writing up, I can see this going 3 or 4 seasons, easily. However, if the plots start going the way the cheap X-Files retreads, I think viewers will flee and the show will probably tank before they even reach the third season.

It's anyone's guess.

Can someone tell me about this show? I hear its like the X-files but i never really watched that show as it seemed each episode wasnt connected to one another.

Is there an storyline through out the season or is it just a bit of standalones like
X-Files?

Thanks! I just heard good things about it but really dont know much about the show.

Bear in mind that I haven't actually watched the show yet myself. The premise, as I understand it, is about a scientist who conducted fringe science experiments way back in the 60s. A lot of the work he did was waaaay out there conceptually. Now a lot of his former work has been picked up, a piece at a time, by various bad guy types. So they pulled him out of the moth balls and set him up with a team to counter them. Something along those lines.

It might've started out like The X-Files but the show took some turns that The X-Files didn't take.

That covers much of the 1st season - but around halfway in we got a glimpse of the bigger picture: That the Fringe's central premise will be a conflict between parallel realities. There's several shadowy organizations that are positioning themselves for the coming conflict between the parallel earths.

I think I read that the first set of episodes, before the mid season break, were merely a prologue, and the real story started in the second half of the season. I think the format is solid, having each episode with it's own stand alone Fringe of the week, and then also having the on-going story arc with ZFT and the truth behind all of the happenings, done in a way that a casual viewer won't be put off.

I miss Fringe! I need more Walter!

The show definitely has potential and I don't see much of the X Files comparisons. There are some similarities, in premise, but the shows have a totally different direction and feel. If Leonard Nimoy stays on, even as a on again off again guest star, I think it will only help propel the show into at least an extra season. Coolest new show I've seen in quite some time.

That's how I felt about it. The basic premise is similar on the surface, but the further the show moved from the pilot the further it moved from the perceived similarities.

If it remains well written, it could last for a half a decade. But, this is also the kind of show that can take a quick turn for the worst if the writing drops in quality, or worse, gets silly.

Fringe is to X-Files as Heroes is to X-Men ... except that Fringe, thus far, seems to be a better evolution of the original concept.

Put simply, Fringe is fun because of its characters, particularly that of Walter (hilariously played by the guy who played Denethor in LOTR). I honestly don't know how long Fringe will last, but its got enough potential to last about five seasons. I don't see how it can go on more than that without a significant evolution in characters or premise.

I think being on Thursday at 9 it will last 2 seasons.

However JJ Adams (does he even work with the show?) admitted he makes it up as it goes along, that if they want 6 seasons fine, if they cancel it he will try to end it. It's open ended i don't think it has any real problem going until they want to end it or canceled.

It's up against two ratings killers (CSI and Grey's Anatomy) starting this fall. I say it'll end Spring 2010.

The show itself seems pretty bland, as with most JJ. Abrams material. I'm predicting a swift cancelation after two to three seasons.

Just crashed coursed 20 episodes in the last few days, wow. This is shades of Charlie Jade and bit of Sliders.

I love this show and if not for the alt worlds i might not of even gave this show a watch, well i wouldnt of. But thanks guys for talking about this show in here and now im a fan and cant wait till next season.

I truly hope we get atleast another full season oout of this.

Not sure how they can plan out 20 more episodes though unless its about sliding back and forth between the earths.
Just hope there is alot of difference between them too like Charlie Jade.
