How many Andromeda seasons are worth watching?

I gave up on the actual TV series after the first season. My favorite moment was actually a novel, which featured Dylan - I think it was him, anyway - on this weird QL-like romp through several parallel universe versions of the ship. Meaning, one version had a crew of androids, another was all lizards, yet another had a human crew which acted like those hedonistic kids from Logan's Run, etc.

1) hadn't cast Kevin Sorbo as the lead

Oh I dunno, I thought he was okay and I LOLed when yer man said he was "like some sort of Greek god"

Unlike the lot of you, I found Andromeda to be a very good series, and I enjoyed it. I've gone back and watched it several times, currently I think i'm in my 4th viewing of watching it all the way through. It's camp, but it's still fun, and there is a lot I like about it. Not the best series in the world, but its entertaining, I do recommend it.

I enjoyed it as well, IIRC SFX called it the TV equivalent of a pair of trousers that you like to wear but wouldn't be seen in public wearing them (or words to that effect), which I agreed with! I was annoyed when it moved in the schedule and I lost track of it...

Andromeda is better in the Original German ;-)

No, really! When they dubbed in in German, they appear to have thrown out the script and made up their own story to go with what was on the screen. And the German writers were much better! Not only that, the voice actors were much better than the people who played their bodies in English, and the foley artist and the sound mixers. . . . . The English language version in much inferior.

I am watching it in german in order to learn the language.

I agree with Star Wolf that if you continue after season 2, follow the Tyr stories. I want to say his storyline was wrapped up at the beginning of Season 4.

Tyr was my favorite character. I really liked the Nietzscheans as a whole. Andromeda had such good ideas but the execution was so blah. It's one sci-fi show that definitely needs a reboot, reimagining.

End of season 3, actually, and as I said, he gets a good sendoff in an otherwise atrocious episode. There's a 2-parter in season 4 where he returns, but it's awful and I believe it's considered blasphemous by most fans of the character.

I enjoyed the first season and a half but after that it turns into pure garbage. I liked the characters for the most part with Tyr and Rev Bem being the standouts. Unfortunately Kevin Sorbo got increasingly annoying as the series went on. The best part of the show was the Nietzscheans.

The best part of the show was clearly Andromeda herself. In all her forms.

But that aside, I liked the Nietzcheans too. ;)

No, no, before that. I must have been complaining about Andromeda for some godless reason, when a friend I was having Lunch with who used to work on the set of Hercules has a revelation... "Oh that's what he was talking about! Kevin was all hush and mum about his next project which he was sure was going to be massive and the biggest thing ever and..."

As long as the actor didn't force the producer to have his character root his way through female cast, relatively for an actor, maybe Kevin was in check?

The main problem was that, for something produced in 2000, it felt like a throwback to the 1980's or even 70's in terms of production values. Perhaps if they'd have spent just a bit more on it... For me, my time felt far better spent watching Farscape.

I liked the aesthetics of the show. It actually looked like science fiction, unlike a lot of shows these days that seem embarrassed to be science fiction.

There were also little things for me, like the season 1 theme, and the naming scheme for the ships -- a LOT MORE creative than Trek.

I have to agree with this. I also enjoyed the Harper.

Andromeda also has one of my favorite clip shows. I believe it was called "The Unconquerable Man." It shows what would have happened if Rhade had defeated Dylan Hunt during their battle in the pilot.

Wasn't that not even so much a clip show as establishing that in an original timeline Rhade -had- beaten Dylan, but ultimately realized it would be for the greater good if he lost, so he essentially went back in time and sacrificed himself for the good of the universe?

^Well, it was a clip show, made to save money like all clip shows, but it was perhaps the most cleverly designed clip show ever, in that it managed to incorporate the clips with new footage and thus create an alternate history of events that led to the outcome you spoilerishly describe.

Fair enough; I only saw most of the episode once upon a time.

It was a very clever way to handle a clip show, though. :)
