How I'd "reboot" Star Trek

I am really against reboots...unless they totally do something different. Its the same thing when songs are covered by other people. If you're going to do straight up karaoke, and not even try to change the arrangement, then why do it at all????

I have issues with nuBSG, but at least they totally went in a new direction. I think TREK, if the movie flops and all that, then I think TREK should totally blow up the formula and tell it differently..IMO..

The problem with Trek XI is not that it's a reboot. It's that JJ asked himself "Hmm...how do I make this less silly?" then went out of his way to make it sillier. ([cough]teenybopper Kirk drives a car off a cliff[/cough] )

But whether you like reboots or not, you're right. That's how you make one. Blow it up and tell it differently.

Well since the point of all of this is to make Trek accessible to new audiences (as Abrams has stated is what he is trying to do), update it, make it less campy, and to address all the continuity crap everyone loves to drag up when someone bitches about a reboot without actually totally changing everything... Well, that's basically the idea behind all the stuff I've written up so far.
