How Do You Take Your Coffee?

I guess salted coffee is not as thoroughly disgusting as what I saw in the candy aisle of my own store the other day: chili-flavored chocolate bars.

It's strange the combination of flavors that can actually taste good together. Of course, individual tastes vary so wildly that one man's favorite food would make another man vomit.

Salt is added to lots of things you might not expect to enhance flavor or bring out sweetness. I especially love salted caramel or chocolate with salted peanuts.

So, anyone here have experience with Bovril? I only learned of it's existence from an episode of Topgear and have no access to it here in the states.

Do you mean "Texas-style" chili, or red chile peppers? BIG difference..

There are few things that better enhance the already amazing taste of chocolate than chile peppers... Have you ever tried a mole' sauce? SOO Good...

As for coffee... I started out in college mixing coffee and hot chocolate mix... Then that became just black with two sugars... Now I might mix in half a packet of Splenda, but if the coffee is good enough, I just take it black..

Recommendations: Daz Bog from Denver, CO... They have some amazing blengs... Russian Roulette and Czar's Blend come to mind... Also, Flagstaff, AZ-based Late For the Train's Smokejumper blend is to die for...

Strong black (preferably Chocolate flavored) with Hazelnut creamer & a bit of cinnamon.

It was chili peppers, I think. There was a picture of one on the label. Oh, and :barf: .

Chili and chocolate? In what universe do those things mix? I cannot understand this at all. Chili is a hot, spicy thing. Who wants to eat that with chocolate, the epitome of sweetness? What's next, curry-flavored banana splits? This is worse than apple pie and cheddar cheese...

Try it before you knock it. Chocolate was mixed with chili long before it was mixed with sugar. Haven't you ever had mole?

Not being a fan of apple pie, I can't comment, but I know my dad LOVED that combo... As for chile peppers (that's how we spell it here in New Mexico - "chili" is the stuff with beans they make in Texas) and chocolate, there's just something about the sweet and the heat together that is intoxicating.. It's not as good a mix with the milk chocolate, but with the standard dark? Oh baby!!

And again, I'll reference mole' sauce... Nothing finer than a mole' chicken dish... SOOO damn good.. The heat from the adobo chile along with the savory sweetness of the chocolate.. I guess I know what i'm cooking this weekend!!!

Decent dark chocolate is anything but the epitome of sweetness, high cocoa content makes it naturally quite bitter.

I have never had this 'mole' of which you all speak.

Mole is a sauce popular in Mexico made of cocoa and spices that often goes on meat. Chocolate was originally used as a hot spicy drink and in savory dishes by the natives of north, central, and south america. It wasn't until Europeans got ahold of it that people started mixing sugar in. Spicy chocolate is very, very good.
