Oh, johnny!!!!! Even if that qualification could conceivably be taken as a valid indicator of anything at all, it fails -- simply because anyone who put in the minimal effort required to skim the thread could plainly see that it isn't true!!!!! Not only are a number of the participants still active on TrekBBS (some of them regulars in this very forum!!!!!) a few have even posted in this thread!!!!!Amazing!!!! Virtually none of the people who started and took part in that thread are still on Trekbbs!!!!

It was Aunt Clara, she accidentally cast a spell where Darren looks completely different and no one notices. If Aunt Clara sees the change, she'll quickly forget it of course.

How about Gladys Kravitz, she also changed between Seasons 2 and 3 and her husband never noticed a difference?
He pretty much ignores her, anyway.
Or Starship Captains are just exceptional people by definition. With hundreds of thousands of people in Starfleet, and only a dozen or so out of all of them commanding a Starship, they'd have to be.
Well, one thing both universes now have in common - Starfleet getting heavily decimated, in both ships and crews, not long prior to Kirk's rise to the chair. In one universe, it was Nero and his invincible ship in Vulcan orbit; in the other, it was T'Kuvma and the year-long slaughter his (and Burnham's) actions caused. While Kirk may have been a little late to the party in the latter thanks to the Farragut incident/Academy instructing, the fleet rebuilding that followed would provide a great opportunity for talented/ambitious up-and-comers to bound their way up the ladder.
Or maybe Kirk got swiftly promoted because he slept with Women admirals...After all, women of any kind are his specialty.

If you accept Kirk's parents being in Starfleet as per modern Trek, it's just more Starfleet nepotism. It goes all the way back to Jonathan Archer, captain of the Enterprise because his dad designed the engine it runs on.
I agree. Look how hard it is for a normal Starfleet Cadet to get to be Captain!!! Picard had to be stabbed through the heart otherwise the best he could do is Lieutenant JUNIOR GRADE at past SIXTY and he was a VALEDICTORIAN!!!
