Spoilers Hopes for the Third Season??

My hope is that they embrace being almost 1,000 years further into the future and 50,000 light years away from the previous setting and really do something new and creative. I liked season 2, don't get me wrong, but this is an opportunity to really shake things up without worrying about blowing up canon with a cannon.

I hope they have the sci-fi chops to pull it off.

Commander Ellen Landry, "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry," Season 1, Episode 4

Landry wasn't a Connolly type. She was a Starfleet officer who didn't trust Burnham. No one cheered when Landry was killed off.

You'd think in 1000 years, the Federation could be that far out. It might have been more interesting if they'd gone to another, much older galaxy.

It was clear Connolly didn’t trust Burnham, which was why he ignored her warnings and got splattered. Landry was exactly the same, gung-ho officer who was going to do things her way regardless of warnings or common sense. And she ended up as Ripper’s chew toy.

You’re trying to present them as different to fit your argument, when they were acting exactly the same way.

Maybe the term V'draysh comes about after the Kazon join the Federation and won't stop calling it "You Federations." And it got shortened along the way.

What? Landry decided to go one on one against Ripper, despite the fact that Ripper had just singlehandedly slaughtered over a hundred Starfleet officers. If that's not Connolly level stupidity, what is?

It is, in fact, more stupid than Connolly. He refused to listen to caution about a subject he thought he knew well. Landry refused to listen to common sense about an irrefutably dangerous unknown creature.

But I don't think Ripper ever slaughtered a hundred starfleet officers. The crew of the Glenn was (mostly) twisted inside out by the malfunction of the spore drive. Ripper only killed the Klingon away team. And Landry.

The only real hope I have for season 3 is more consistent writing and no shake ups behind the scenes.

Discovery has far exceeded everything I thought a new Star Trek show could be, made in present day. It still feels like Star Trek to me, especially season 2, without going to the fanwank so many fans demanded.

Still, I think Landry at least believed Ripper killed the crew of the Glenn. Even if we ignore that, Landry was present and witnessed Ripper turn a Klingon warrior into a little bitch, so her choice to go up against Ripper herself definitely can't be considered intelligent at all.

There's a big difference you're not seeing.

No one cheered when Landry got killed. It was done for shock value. Plain and simple.

The entire purpose of mansplaining Connolly was to strike another victory in their "future is female" mantra, kill him off as he's patronining a woman, and get the feminists cheering.

*I* cheered when Landry was killed. She was a bully. She started shitting on Burnham (and the other convicts) the second they were tractored in by Disco. I felt she got her just desserts.

I’m glad I don’t live in your world. It would be exhausting to be that paranoid all of the time.

And I didn’t cheer when either got killed, I laughed my ass off at the stupidity of both.

That you know of.

Nope. People die for being arrogant. It's called hubris and has been present in Western storytelling since Ancient Greece.

If they explore the future of the Federation, I hope that by this time it's a shadow of its former self, and their equivalent of the Enterprise is centuries old, held together by duct tape and wishful thinking, because nobody understands how to repair a warp core anymore.

Doesn't seem likely, I'm just a sucker for used future / lost technology settings.

How about letting us get to know Bryce and Rhys for once. I know they're male, and therefore not part of their "Future is Female" mantra, but I'd love to see some depth to this "family" they're so keen to emphasise.
If you can't see how female dominated the show is you need your eyes checked. Especially after seeing the Enterprise bridge, it's pretty clear. Hell they even held a "Future if Female" convention panel a year or so ago!

Like I said, I'd like to see them develop the male bridge officers for once. Well that and not introduce a moron/condescending male character just to kill him off and have the feminists cheering.
Look a little deeper than numbers on a casting sheet.

Do you think we'll ever see a female Connolly-type, patronising character, who's killed off so triumphantly as he was? No. That characters was literally designed to give something for feminists to cheer. Likewise Leland with his "Women! Stop talking." before being brutally killed, another thing for the feminists to cheer over.
The fact that you need to include Rhys, Bryce and Linus on the male side says it all.

Also, Nillson and Airiam should be separate characters. They didn't need to replace the latter with another female character, but they did (and yes I know the reason why)

Detmer and Owo? Bridge furniture? I think you're thinking of Rhys and Bryce, the two bridge officers they refuse to give an development to, both male obv.

Developed female characters:

1. Burnham
2. Tilly
3. Georgiou
4. Cornwell
5. Amanda
6. Detmer
7. Owosekun
8. Airiam
9. Nhan
10. Reno
11. Pollard
12. L'Rell
13. Number One
14. Siranna

Developed male Characters:

1. Pike
2. Saru
3. Stamets
4. Culber
5. Tyler
6. Spock
7. Leland
8. Sarek

Christ, you are a one-trick pony. We've been over this before. If you're not willing to discuss any other subject then how "There are too many womynz on the show!", there's not much point to your involvement here. You are reply banned from the thread.
And the award for dumbest post ever goes to...
All of the above and this and your thread derail from the other thread earn you an infraction for trolling. Comments to PM. Move on and find another topic to discuss besides your one grudge.
