One of my favourite DS9 episodes, I got my DVD collection out specifically to watch this the other day.
What is your opinion of the episode - story and characters?
I won't go into too much detail other than saying I thought it was a very interesting and well-written episode and I wish they'd made a better follow up than the B-story in Prodigal Daughter in season 7.
As for this episode, I really liked Bilby. His friends seemed generic bad guys in a way, so I wasn't fond of them and Bilby's boss was instantly dislikable - he seemed quite evil. In a way, I wish Bilby could have been saved somehow and not been killed by the Klingons. You know, he'd somehow escaped.
Throughout the episode, I had a feeling that the Starfleet operative who briefed O'Brien every so often was the undercover guy who infiltrated Starfleet! I didn't trust him one bit, but he turned out to be ok after all.
I think the Orion Syndicate was something very interesting that could have been explored more deeply in other episodes.
