Holy sh*t!! Red Dwarf is back!!!!

Also, according to the Red Dwarf website, this will be the first ever Red Dwarf to be broadcast with no laughter track!

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if they just happen to be using the locations from Coronation Street without any actual reference to the show. There's other examples of this. For example, in the movie A Dog's Breakfast, one of the characters is an actor on a fictional sci-fi TV series. For the scenes where we see him on the show within a show, the used the Prometheus sets from Stargate SG-1.

I'm excited about this still, despite hte slow news, because unlike the two crappy "Knight Rider" shows, and unlike other terrible spin-off or continues or rebootings of other show, this will actually be good.

I'll be in the minority on this, but thank the Gods. The best thing about the series seven DVDs are the episodes without the laugh tracks.

Hmm, guess that means no live audience then. In some ways I think that's a shame, because series 7's timing seemed a bit off without the audience, but that may be because they dubbed them back on later.

Well if the reports are right then you're wrong. They apparently run in to Craig Charles' Corrie character, and Steve McDonald.

When they were filming season 7 they did leave pauses after the joke so a laugh track could be placed there later.

^ The problem was that they left the gaps and then showed it to a live audience and recorded the laughter, which as Bob says, led to the comic timing being off as the cast were not reacting off the audience.

It's better than canned laughter but not much.

This time they won't be leaving the gaps i'm guessing so it should be a different kettle of fish. Comedy works well without the audience, as long as it is genuinely funny of course.

From Digital Spy

The return of Red Dwarf this year could spark a full comeback for the programme, it has been claimed.
Last month, it emerged that the first new episodes of the cult show since 1999 were being filmed and would air on Dave over Easter.
Red Dwarf: Back To Earth will consist of three parts written and directed by Doug Naylor.
Chris Barrie, who played Arnold Rimmer on the show, told The Sun that the programme's comeback could last beyond these episodes.
Barrie said: "We all think this could be the start of something big - perhaps a new mini-series, a film or just a series.
"None of us has ever closed the door on Red Dwarf.

Lets hope that it is good enough, and gets good enough ratings to warrant it.

I was watching an interview of Robert Llewellyn by Leo Laporte from last summer when he'd JUST been told about the project and had zero details to share (from what I was told, he got word in the airport as he was preparing to fly to the US).

He made it perfectly clear that the 4 of them have always gotten along great and just to work with them again had him really pumped. They seem to genuinely like one another, which is cool. :)

That's not exactly true. Chris and Craig hated each for a while, going from the stuff they say on the commentaries in the early series.

I wasn't aware of any dislike between anyone, but I've only listened to the first series commentaries and not paid that much attention.

I may have mentioned it already, but if you haven't seen it yet check out http://llewtube.com - it's Robert Llewlyns web show Carpool and he'll have Craig Charles and Chris Barrie on in the upcoming weeks.

Ed Bye was his first show and he's had Danny Jon Jules on it already and I really didn't expect those two to gel as well as they did.

Ruby Wax was on in the last couple of weeks too, might be of interest seeing as she had a bit part ;)

I think they said it was something about unprofessional behaviour and coming to work hung over on Craig's part made them argue and stuff, which they think actually made the antagonism between Lister and Rimmer work more.

Ah! Thats triggered a memory.. I have a vague recollection of Craif Charles saying it was the productions fault. Put men together in a hotel and a place with lots of pubs and clubs, and they will get drunk.

I've worked in Manchester and I can only agree with that heh
