Holy sh*t!! Red Dwarf is back!!!!

So... they'd rebuild the sets, set up new effects and models, hire back most or all of the original actors... and make one hour of new Red Dwarf? Color me skeptical.
Or just nick Doctor Who's spaceship sets and get the old computer models out of the BBC computer archives...?
Hard to tell this early on, but it looks like they're testing the waters to see if 'Dwarf is still viable. I'd actually be willing to bet the Doctor Who hiatus has something to do with this.

I also thought the Doctor Who hiatus has something to do with this.
I just hope they don't try and make a show that can be seen at 7pm on bbc 1.

Argh no! Has to be on at 9 on BBC 2! ;)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this, I've been burned enough times with hopes for new Dwarf. Bringing it back for just an hour seems very strange though. Will it be done on the cheap and look like the first series?

I hope it falls through. Seriously.

As much as I love Red Dwarf, the show died when Rimmer kicked death in the nuts.

Well, actually when Rimmer blew up that parallel universe drive at the end of season six.

I liked the absolute ending ala Grim Reaper; but the whole let's fire this random beam into a mirror and enter a mirror universe was, even for Red Dwarf, taking it a bit far; though I liked most of series 8 and some of 7.

Not that it matters, but would they explain how the cast have aged if it continues? It's been 10 years!

I LOVED that ending. Again, Rimmer showing the heroic core in his being. Inspiring.

Hmm I guess it's not what any of us hoped for.

From Digital Spy

The cast of Red Dwarf will reportedly reunite for a series of new shows to be broadcast on digital channel Dave in 2009.

The Sun states that Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn and Chloe Annett will appear in four 30-minute specials that will combine new material with classic footage of the cult BBC Two sitcom.

Red Dwarf ran for eight seasons between 1988 and 1999. Numerous attempts to finance a cinematic version of the programme have failed in recent years.

Co-creator Doug Naylor stated in 2007 that the BBC had opted not to pursue a ninth season of the show, despite its previous commercial success.

Well, without going wild, it could be set 10 years later?

Hmm I guess it's not what any of us hoped for.

DAVE!?

New material mixed with old material? Sounds suspiciously like the 'new' episode of 'Allo 'Allo! they did last year. René and co met up in the cafe and talked for a bit, reminscing, via flashbacks/clips, about their times together in the war.

Sounds more like a tenth anniversary thing. A year late. Typical Dwarf :D

10th? 20th isn't it?
I suppose it it could be right, Bobby did say BBC Worldwide, and Dave is 50% owned by BBC Worldwide. They can't stretch out sitting around reminiscing for 4 episodes though can they?

Steadily getting more and more rat-arsed?

Oh god. An emohawk. We see the memories being sucked out of them?

Best case scenario is they could just be talking about stock footage of all the sci models and explosions.

^Most likely that will be true, am sure thye could make the CGI/Models looks great but thats not Red Dwarf, I want the old stuff again. Also they might use some flashbacks to jog a few memoires since its been so long since Red Dwarf was last on.

I am looking foward even more now that its 4 episodes, which is more than enough to wrap up the universe properly and for all of us to say goodbye to Red Dwarf.

Wrap it up?

You're joking?

I expect 4 to 10 episodes out of these people a decade, or there will be trouble.

Damn, that doesn't sound too great..

4 episodes (rather than 1) - yay!

4 episodes that are a mix of new and old material - sounds a bit like one of those Simpsons episodes they do when they have run out of budget and just show a lot of rehashed material.

Still, hopefully they will somehow wrap up the massive season 8 cliffhanger..
