Hollywood Reporter - Anton Yelchin in talks to play Checkov?

I don't have a problem with having Chekov in the film. Since we still don't know exactly what time period the film is set in (pre-TOS, early TOS, etc.) or what the setting is (Enterprise or not) there's no point making an argument. It's possible that Chekov will play a small role in the film, and maybe won't even show up on the Enterprise.

Personally, I've made the decision that I don't care if this movie holds true to existing canon. In fact, this could be a complete and total reboot/reimagining and I wouldn't care. All I want is a good movie that rejuvinates Trek in a whole new way.

Anton Yelchin is also going to star in the title role of the movie "Charlie Bartlett", which is due out later this year, and has gotten some very positive early buzz. Look for this to be a break-out year for Yelchin.
