Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

Looks like you had a good seat.

Don't they shake hands at the ends of most games, though?

they were incredible seats. the husband of a woman I work with works for the Stars and gets so many comps each game. She threw me a pair and suggested there might be more.

Only at the end of a playoff series do they shake hands. I think that's what makes it more special and meaningful
No, I meant most sports.

Although, I guess you're right, it is more special if they only do it up to four times a year.

Habs played great tonight!

They certainly did. I don't even like hockey but I watched this game and holy crap. Five minutes left and I was yelling at them to keep going. I wasn't going to be satisfied unless they got two more goals and then they did. That last goal and I was yelling at my friends, "I called it! I fucking called that!"

Anyway, that was the least of it tonight. We were sitting around and heard the police 'copters in the sky just going crazy. Went out to see what was going on and smelled rubber fire. We knew there must have been some sort of crazy riot so we walked downtown to find riot cops all over the place and about five cop cars burned to a crisp.

Montréalers certainly take this stuff seriously.

Looks like fun.

I exceedingly happy the Habs won (not the least because my brother would otherwise never let me live it down--him being a Bruins fan and all) but I must say I'm quite ashamed of some of my "fellow fans". That this happens at all is a disgrace. That it happens after a FIRST round win is even more embarrassing and disgraceful. For one thing, there's no excuse for nonsense like this. For another, I remember when Habs fans behaved like Habs fans and not like Leaf fans--not that Leaf fans are prone to riots, but they have been prone, since the early 90s, to celebrating a relatively minor event like a first round win as though they'd won the Cup. A sign that the Habs are no longer routinely at the summit, I suppose, as well over half the crowd is not old enough to have adult memories of the most recent visit of Lord Stanley's Cup in Montreal.

That said: GO, HABS, GO!!!

And tonight, GO CAPS, GO FLAMES!!!

I'm very nervous about tonight. The way the Sharks have played some of these games, it's like they don't deserve to win tonight. Yet they have home ice and the team that has home ice wins game 7 64% of the time. I really hope they can pull it out and actually play with some urgency. Sunday night was terrible.

I just thought Id share this pic my friend made and put on facebook, it gave me a good laugh at least.

Well, congrats to the Flyers for advancing after a tough series. Now, as a Penguins fan, I can finally say BRING IT ON, RANGERS! Hopefully the Pens still remember how to play hockey after this layoff. :)

Damn- just read in the predictions thread that the Avs are playing the Wings next round. Things do not go well for the Avs when they have to play the Wings...

^ All I can say is go Avs. Don't wanna see the wings have another go at the cup...ever. Haha.

Those poor Capitals. I really was hoping they'd beat those thuggish Flyers. Stupid Downie playing dirty back in preseason, and Clarke back in the 70's. Not to mention those horrible Philadelphia fans throwing snowballs at Santa - shame their team gets to move on, when the non-evil people in Washington (DC is such a better city, too) are crying into their beers.

WhoooHooo! the flames are teeing off this weekend!! they are done!
lets go Flyers take out thos Gorfs.

Lets go Wings bury the Avs.
(the Wings came from my town long ago, so :P:P:P )

1925–49: Early years
When the Western Canada Hockey League folded after the 1925–26 WHL season[2] a deal was made, so that a new NHL expansion franchise in Detroit bought the rights to the players of one of the most successful of the teams in that league, the 1925 Stanley Cup champion Victoria Cougars. However, (the NHL does not consider the Red Wings to be a continuation of the Victoria team.)

All that proves is they are FUCKING IDIOTS!!!!!

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a series. Going 7 games only to see the Sharks put on their most dominating performance in the Playoffs this season. Roenick was a stud tonight with his 4 points, 2 goals. All the big players were in the game (Thornton with a goal, Pavelski with a goal, and Setiguchi with a goal) and the defense was the best it's been all series long. Hell, I'm not even going to talk about the refs, who seemed bent on giving that game to the Flames, but the Sharks escaped. Sometimes it wasn't pretty, but a series win is a series win.

Now it's time for Dallas and this series scares me too. It goes from Kipper, Iginla, Nolan, and Phenouf to Turco, Richards, Medano, and Morrow. Still, great momentum builder and time to move on to Round 2. It's really going to be another great series.

Shit.

Normally when I see something I don;t like, I can shrug it off and move on pretty quickly, but I still can't believe what a boneheaded move it was by Mike Keenan to pull Kipper and throw in Jospeh. Boneheaded.

Yeah, Kipper wasn't having a stellar game, but the the Flames D and offence were brutal. I know the move was more intended to wake up the players, but we still had a timeout we could have used. When kipper was pulled, the shots were something like 30-7 in favour of the Sharks. And when kipper was pulled, we were dead in the middle of a barrage from teh Sharks. Four goals in 8 minutes.

Fuck it, throw a cold goalie right smack dead into the frenzy.

Calgary is still playing like a mediocre Bantam AA team: Bam, San Jose scores again. 3 goals down. The third period arrives, Calgary shows up, gets a goal, actually plays for a few minutes... I think had Kipper been in net, Cujo's goal wouldn;t have happened. And it wold have been a one goal game. With 3 mins left when we pulled our goalie for a sixth man, I knew it was over and was all for not.

It could have been a different game, or not, but I didn't like that move. What a way to treat your #1--even when he's playing like shit.

On to our Stanley Cup winning season in 09/09: I hope Nolan comes back next year, I like him. He may be under ontract, I don't even know. Cujo too. Both thjese guys have soul and bring a ton of heart.

Three of the four teams remaining in the East hail from the Atlantic Division, and two from Pennsylvania. This proves once and for all that PA is the greatest state in the United States of America. True story.
