Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

Kovalev had better wake up or the Habs will be out of the playoffs on Monday. :(

HAHA!:techman: I am not a big hockey fan, but I believe that the Bruins are sick of being the red headed stepchild of Boston sports.

Well, it seems it's going to take a little more than winning a series to not be the stepchild of Boston Sports. I mean the Celtics are red hot, the Sox are pretty much the new Yankees (Yeah I know, you hate New York, but it's true) and the Patriots are pretty much the best team in Football. Heck, Boston College had a pretty good season last year too. Where does that leave the Bruins. Not very high on people's radar I would think.

True, but winning a post season series, especially one that everyone thought they had no chance in, would be a big boost for them. They would still be least popular of the 4 teams, but it would help.

Well, perhaps they can take heart from them still being more renowned than the Revs?

(Even though they pay no rent at Gillette Stadium, the Revolution badly need a soccer-specific stadium in another part of New England...)

Especially if they win it against the Habs, of all teams.

Well no one in New England considers the Revs, or MLS for that matter, as part of the 4 Boston sport teams, Celtics, BoSox, Bruins, or Pats. They just don't have the following in New England, despite the fact that IIRC they are one of MLS's better teams.

I was only partly serious...

...but I wonder if the Revs might not benefit from trying to follow the example of teams like Toronto FC and others, by trying to get themselves a site in or close to downtown Boston to build a stadium in.

Might be easier to draw crowds if they were not out in Foxboro, living under the shadow of the Patriots.

I did hear something about the Revs looking at Somerville, though I am not sure about how ideal a site it would be...

Well, the Preds go another year without making it to round 2 of the playoffs. Oh well, they played good games. Now, the long hot dry summer without any Predators games begin. October cannot come quick enough!

here's an example of why hockey is the greatest game on earth. 6 games of beating the crap out of each other, the series ends and you line up, shake hands and wish the winners luck

Pronger is out! *does the dance of joy* ;)

And yeah, hockey is definitely the greatest game on earth.

If it weren't for Modano scoring into the empty net, Pronger would have finished the season in the penalty box :D

That would have been so very appropriate

Sharks played like Shit tonight. You have a 3 on 1, and break in front of the goalie, and don't shoot. What the hell was that. It was pretty much like that all game long. They better get thier act together for Game 7, but I'm sure the crowd will be as crazy as usual.

Looks like you had a good seat.

Don't they shake hands at the ends of most games, though?

That woulda been fitting.

Calgary played excellent hockey on Sunday. If we can figure out how to play like that all the time, we'll go far.

they were incredible seats. the husband of a woman I work with works for the Stars and gets so many comps each game. She threw me a pair and suggested there might be more.

Only at the end of a playoff series do they shake hands. I think that's what makes it more special and meaningful

The only player I ever remember not shaking hands at the end of a series was Billy Smith of the Islanders I don't think he ever did, he was the most arrogant player I recall from the early 80's when the Islanders were the team to beat.

Habs played great tonight!

They certainly did. I don't even like hockey but I watched this game and holy crap. Five minutes left and I was yelling at them to keep going. I wasn't going to be satisfied unless they got two more goals and then they did. That last goal and I was yelling at my friends, "I called it! I fucking called that!"

Anyway, that was the least of it tonight. We were sitting around and heard the police 'copters in the sky just going crazy. Went out to see what was going on and smelled rubber fire. We knew there must have been some sort of crazy riot so we walked downtown to find riot cops all over the place and about five cop cars burned to a crisp.

Montréalers certainly take this stuff seriously.
