Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

So seeing as my team kind of...sucks. I decided to change my avatar to one of their better players of the recent past. Maybe itll give them some luck? Or maybe Im just being hopeful

Any other Caps fans here? They had a much-needed win last night, 2 points out of the 8th seed!

For fun I labelled some of the Caps players as Trek species:

Ovechkin: Klingon warrior
Viktor Kozlov: Romulan
Niklas Backstrom: Vulcan
Olie Kolzig: Human (captain)

Well, your Caps beat my Preds tonight and it was not pretty. That was probably the worst hockey playing I have seen from the Preds during the first period. The second and third periods were better but not enough for the Preds to come back. I was there unfortunately. Not the best b-day present :brickwall:

Holy crap that goal Toskala allowed against the Isles was awful. Poor bastard got completely handcuffed as it bounced past him.

Pretty much sums up the entire Toronto season.

Hilarious.

I hate the Leafs, but that must have made Toskala absolutely sick. Anyone who plays sports of any kind and has missed an easy one should know this. Poor guy, I feel sorry for him. And of course, the media in TO is going to skin him alive.

Still... I got a chuckle when I saw that.

I'm not sure it was that easy - just a weird flukey bounce. I hate the Leafs, but I've always liked Toskala. This'll be largely forgotten in a week, especially since TO won anyways.

It's even happened to St. Patrick - it's just one of those fluky things that happens from time to time.

It is, however, awesome when it happens to the Leafs.

I refuse to believe that. In fact, the hockey gods may strike you down for your impertinence
I've been searching for it all over the net, but can't find it - I do remmeber seeing it on Coach's Corner though. Just one of those bad bounces, what can you do.

On the plus side, searching youtube for PAtrick Roy really reminded me of how much I loved this guy growing up. Some great videos on there.

one thing I always hate to see is Bertuzzi scoring a game winner like he did last night. Tell me he didn't take a dive to draw the penalty
Havent' seen it yet, but Bertuzzi is one of those guys who does get away with diving - his size helps, the refs believe that it must take quite a bit to take him down or something.

The Patrick Roy one was in 2002(?) against the Wings(?) when he made a fantastic glove save, and then threw his hand in the air to show he caught the puck, only for it to fall out of his glove and into the net.

Martin Brodeur even made a terrible blunder a few years back when he went to get a bouncing puck but dropped his stick. The puck hit his stick and went into the net.

This stuff happens to even the greatest to ever play, but it's still funny. And hey, I know all about embarrassing goaltending. You just have to look back to Game 1 of the Cup Finals in '06.

Heh, I remember that but there actually was a goal "scored" on him similar to the way it went down with Toskala the other night.

Here's a couple more embarassing ones:

Flames are all over the map. It is frighteningly painful to think that we could be golfing in a few weeks, and I'm quite glad we got the win last night, especially against a division rival.

I'm pretty sure Roy's Statue of Liberty gaffe happened in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Devils.

edit: Never mind, it was the Wings. Fuckin' Shanahan.

you're thinking of the gaffe behind the net that led to a goal

I've tried to block that from my memory. Vodka and therapy have helped, but, yeah. Fucking Wings
