Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

After your first paragraph, I thought you might have been talking about the Senators. They really need another top forward, so they don't lean so heavily on Spezza/Alfredsson/Heatley.
Stillman, Vermette and Fisher? Defense and goaltending are the Sens' problems. I'd kill for a forward lineup like they have.
Yeah, more defense would help too...

That was another great game from the Predators tonight. They might just make it to the playoffs yet! Wish I could have been there for the final regular home game!!!!!! My brother said that it was packed!

And with that, we take Vancouver down with us. :D

Another great game from the Oilers. Despite the many downs of this past season, the Oilers made up for everything over the last 6 or so weeks. I couldn't be more proud of my team.

This organization has an amazing future ahead. I can't wait! :techman:

And, the Predators make it to the playoffs! Now, one has to hope that they can make it beyond round one unlike the previous couple of years!

Detroit won the President's Cup and the Sharks lost. Maybe this is a good thing in the end. I do know one thing. Nabokov isn't starting on Sunday and he's going to get the rest going into the Postseason.

I'm not adverse to blowing this team up - we've had essentially the same core for almost a decade (Sedins, Naslund, Morrison, Ohlund, etc.) and they haven't done squat.

Problem is, the UFA roster is exceptionally weak this summer.

I'm looking forward to the changes - it should've happened last year. It's not just a matter of the players. I expect either Vigneault or Nonis or both are gone. I'd love to see Linden move into an assistant coach position with the team.

I'm rooting for Nashville and San Jose in the West, Ottawa and Washington(assuming they make it) in the East.

And I'm rooting for anyone who's playing Anaheim. No repeat! No repeat!

Hey, another San Jose Fan. At least I know one person is listening during the playoffs. ;)

I feel compelled to cheer for the Flames in the west, having lived in Calgary last summer. Still choosing a backup... possibly Minnesota.

The Wild are officially Division Champs. :techman: Hopefully they won’t suck it up in the playoffs.

I stopped by the Xcel center today (shopping at the Hockey Lodge): I was kind of surprised to see some people already lining up for the tickets that go on sale Saturday.

The Wild are playing some of their best hockey of the season right now. Gaborik's been on a roll, so hopefully the Wild can keep it going.

The rest of the west doesn't really spark my enthusiasm. If Chicago were in it, I'd root for them. Barring that... go Habs. It would be fitting for Montréal to be the team who brings the cup back to Canada.

I don't expect Nonis or Vigneault will be packing for flights just yet, although with the difference in ownership since they were brought onboard, who knows? I'd only be truly surprised if Naslund and Morrison survive the summer, nor would I get too comfortable seeing the Sedins in town for much longer.

So long as they keep Kesler, Burrows, and Bieksa around, The Powers That Be™ can do what they like with the others (I consider Luongo to be a non-issue in terms of movement.) I would be disappointed to see Shannon and Raymond vanish, though, and I don't think Bourdon has gotten a fair enough shake just yet. They'd be crazy to trade Edler.

As bummed as I am about missing the playoffs, I'm nearly as stoked to see what happens in the offseason. Can't wait to see a fresh squad (wearing Johnny Canuck jerseys!) in October.

Bahahaha! Carolina, which has been in third place the entire season have played their last game and have directly gone from third to ninth.

Well, the Preds lost, which makes them out of the running for the 7th seed sweepstakes. That means it will be either the Avs or Flames. It it wrong to point out as a Sharks Fan that both teams scare me?

Well, my brother actually wanted the Preds to lose tonight so they would not play San Jose again for the third year. Anyway, I am just glad again that the Preds made it to the playoffs even though we will have to play the Red Wings.

That really sucks for Carolina. It illustrates how dumb the system is, though.

But it looks like Ottawa gets to play either the Habs or the Penguins, so I'm happy.

^
How is the system dumb?

It's the least convoluted of all the professional sports. Frankly, I think it's the best.

I figured the Flyers would choke and miss the playoffs. They had Jersey and Pittsburgh left, and both teams have had their number lately.

Now I have to figure out where I can watch the playoffs...
