Hockey Talk - 2007-2008 Season

I guess i should start cheering for the Oil...but only if they decide not to suck tonight.

Well, that was an exciting game for the Predators tonight. My fiance and I just got our DirecTV going yesterday so we were able to watch most of the game. When I came home from work, it was at the end of the first when they were down 3-0. To come back like that was great. Too bad for Ellis tonight since he had been doing very well recently.

Colorado @ Vancouver tonight. Surely they can win at least one timely game against the Avs, right? I can almost see one potential upside to the proposed 84-game schedule as the finish line approaches.

Apparently, they can't manage that. I'm still not convinced about the 84-game schedule; I'm more inclined towards letting four more teams into a sloghtly longer play-offs. Much as I love hockey, even 82 games is bloated.

And anyways, that would just be two more games for Vancouver to blow leads in.

And the Sens ... where to begin? Even if I wasn't a fan, I couldn't share Canadave's glee. It's too important that Toronto be forced to watch the "other" Ontario team make the play-offs every year, and then find some way to explain why the cosmos are still intact.

What an exciting Flames/Oil game! I am quite happy with the results, too.

I would have been ok with The Oilers winning if Both Nashville and Colorado lost, but the stars just weren't in alignment. It is going to be close to the bitter end.

Regardless of what anyone says, the Oilers made it interesting up until the bitter end.
Indeed. That and my season wouldnt feel...complete if the Oilers made the playoffs and the kings didnt. Now that they both didnt theres a sense of...normality in my life.

Avs are back where they belong, in the playoffs! BAM!™

If Forsberg and get and stay healthy, we're going to be dangerous.

Man I wish the Canucks would get off their knees - they're blowing just about every game they're in. We aren't even in control of our own destiny any more. I'm absolutely stunned. Edmonton tonight, if we don't beat them then we don't deserve to be in the playoffs, even though the Oil have been playing great hockey for the past month and a bit.

The worst part is that they're not even a particularly bad team, they're just so goddamned inconsistent. They seem to be caught in the malaise of being neither winners nor losers, so we've got yet another middle of the road hockey team which we know can be better, but they just... aren't.

It's a depressing place to be as a fan because we're coming down to the wire yet again where even if the Canucks barely squeak into 8th, there's no reason to believe that they can make it past the first round with what they've got right now, nor do they have the scouting staff to make the best of a 9th place finish. That said, all these contracts finishing up combined with everything above means that so matter how the season ends, we'll be looking at another reformed team in the fall.

After your first paragraph, I thought you might have been talking about the Senators. They really need another top forward, so they don't lean so heavily on Spezza/Alfredsson/Heatley.

Cheering for a team that hasn't locked up a playoff spot this close to the end of the season is actually pretty exciting. I have the schedules for the Capitals, Sabres, Bruins, and Flyers written on post it notes on my wall. I just hope they make it....

I'm not adverse to blowing this team up - we've had essentially the same core for almost a decade (Sedins, Naslund, Morrison, Ohlund, etc.) and they haven't done squat.

Problem is, the UFA roster is exceptionally weak this summer.

Stillman, Vermette and Fisher? Defense and goaltending are the Sens' problems. I'd kill for a forward lineup like they have.

I'm really rooting for the Caps, would love to see Ovechkin in the playoffs. They were 14th in the conference after 41 game this year, they've been playing remarkable hockey.

I'm kind of missing hockey now. The Sharks wrapped it up too early and the only thing to hope for is a complete and udder collapse from Detroit. Since that isn't going to happen, it's now Preseason stuff. I've been trying to follow the other races, but it's really hard when I don't know much about what is going on and I've haven't even followed the East all year.
