Yeah, that's pretty much my take on it, too. The final season was particularly woeful.

I thought the TV series has the best ideas out of all the Highlander stuff, even if there were just as many bad episodes as good. The immortal of the week got really old and didn't make the premise feel special.

This remake has been on the table far longer than 2021 as stated, they started planning after the source was released.
