A big part of the appeal of Lambert in the part, is that he was just learning English. He wasn't that fluent just yet. It gave him a accent, that while trying to be Scottish became all over the place......
Like a man who has lived across the world during many different centuries. My German has a Dutch twang, while my English can go all over the place if I want to. Because I am Dutch and learned English and its forms as a child. The idea of someone that has lived for centuries having a accent that is born of many languages makes more sense than someone speaking the exact some language for centuries.
