Yes and no. Similar idea but in the hyperloop they use maglev and magnetic repulsion to keep the car in the centre of the tube and push it that via repulsion.

I'm quite rusty but this probably is more like a linear motor, I used to make those for a firm that made parts for ASML's chip machines, these would accelerate and decelerate extremely smoothly so they didn't create vibrations, think those were .35 Micron.. loooong time ago when the Pentium MMX was really advanced.
