Hey, I never noticed that before....

I noticed this many years ago, but never commented on it. In ‘Man Trap’ after Kirk, McCoy and Crewman Green beam up to The Enterprise, Kirk walks into a turbo lift. As he waits there is a terrible racket that sounds like tin cans filled with rocks being dragged down a bumpy road. Very unusual sound for a 23rd century starship.

Although not used until The Man Trap, this scene was actually shot during the production of The Corbormite Manoeuvre and features some nifty mobile camerawork! As such I wonder if the clanking was accidental, perhaps the camera getting settled or maybe even the props guy picking up and arranging the lighting bar which was used to show turbolift motion?

To this day, I don’t understand why the sound editors just didn’t delete this noise, since there was no dialogue being spoken at this time.

‘Where No Man Has Gone Before’…

Mitchell is holding Yeoman Smith’s hand when he gets zapped inside the Barrier. She doesn’t light up, nor is she elevated to Goddess.

Those early episodes had more than their share of audio errors - doors missing their FX were quite common, inconsistence communicator cheeps in Man Trap, that sort of thing.
To be fair there was probably a lot of new elements to keep track of!

‘Naked Time’

Sulu barges onto the Bridge. Uhura tries to calm him down. Sulu grabs her by the hand and swings her around, but she apparently is never infected.

I think her "character trait to be revealed" is that she would start belting out songs. And when told to pipe down, she'd sing louder. Because that's what drunk songbirds do.

We don't know if she was or not. She may have been very resistant to the disease; Scotty and McCoy were both in close contact with people who had it, but never showed symptoms. And Kirk and Spock effectively beat the disease on their own.

True.

There is also precedent from TNG's "The Naked Now"... Riker was infected as soon as he picked up Troi to take her to sickbay. (You hear the hiss of infection on screen.) Despite that, he was still level headed to the very end. I think it's a matter of real focus... Riker started off as a young hotshot on the fast track to command, so he feels like he has a lot to prove. That probably focuses a person almost to the point of obsession.

We know Scotty is deeply entrenched with the Enterprise and her engines, and Spock was able to focus after he gathered himself. Same with Kirk.

I think this simply shows Uhura was also a deeply focused person... though we did get a glimpse of her losing her cool when Kirk did go after her saying, "At least try to shut off Riley." She caught herself quickly and went back to work, with Kirk apologizing immediately after.

Now that you mention it, I just saw a pattern I didn't see before... the redshirted officers kept their cool pretty much the whole time. (Scotty, Uhura.)

The one time in TOS where it pays to be red...
