Hey, I never noticed that before....

In "The Naked Time", Kirk and Scotty break into the engine room:

And in the very next shot. What happened to Kirk's arm?

Apologies if this has been covered already:

Exposed wood on the bridge when the pie piece next to the Science station is removed, "Errand of Mercy". We're used to the black side panel being shown, but I had never noticed the flooring before:

Speaking of the black side panel, notice how this is one of the times Spock's fingers wrap around it, rather than across the top of the next(missing) panel.

I still find it interesting that they'd do a shot like that in the first place (and they've done it in multiple episodes) as the section of the bridge is SUPPOSED to have consoles past the one Spock is using (in a semi-circle). I wonder if the DP thought the shot would be cropped furter - and you wouldn't see it when the final edits were made and the episode broadcast?

I don't mind that (in-universe) the console next to Spock is retractable - that's probably where the emergency access / toilet is, and no-one ever uses that desk much anyway.

The wooden floor on the other hand; erm....

I've seen "Mirror, Mirror" dozens of times over the years, but a couple of nights ago I noticed a bit of business I'd never seen before: DeForest Kelley grabbing a skull off of a table in sickbay and walking offscreen with it:

Kelley (or the director) probably did it to motivate his moving out of the Kirk and Uhura two-shot that followed. I think it's the same skull that Uhura hands to Kirk when they're all fighting Mirror Spock. Nice, subtle bit of foreshadowing.

Speaking of "Mirror, Mirror":

For some reason the handheld controls were not installed in the turbolift that day. So Shatner pretended. :)

The handhold doohickey isn't located there; its two feet over farther to the left out of frame. Chekov uses it when he and Kirk ride down to Kirk's cabin--and Kirk is ambushed. I'm not sure what Shatner is doing here with his hand.

I never noticed that was a skull!
Ugh! I thought is was a vase. :o

That 'skull' always disappointed me in the "Mirror, Mirror" fight scene. It broke apart like cheap plaster and it didn't seem like it would be capable of seriously harming Spock.

Never would have happened in a million years, since Gene had to fight just to keep Spock in the cast before his popularity with viewers could be established. For the sake of discussion, though...had they done that, what kind of message would that situation have projected to the audience about humanity's future? That we could only find peace under the leadership of our alien overlords? And is there a cookbook we should know about?

Speaking of MM, how long did it take for everyone here to notice Spock's bodyguard was a Vulcan? Or that most of the usual background people - Blackburn, Paskey, etc are missing, and are replaced by different ones -notably at engineering on the bridge.

Marc Daniels did an outstanding job in his prep for this one.

"Spectre of the Gun" was filmed first. "Spock's Brain" was broadcast first.

I've seen speculation that Daniels left Star Trek after "Spock's Brain" because of a conflict with Fred Freiberger, but there's a memo in the UCLA files indicating he had to bow out of several directing assignments for the third season because they conflicted with other commitments, dated very early in the season.

At the end of 'Requiem for Methuselah', Kirk says "If only I could forget." as he puts his head down on his desk. At that moment you can see Kirk mouth the word "Forget" again, but the sound is muted. Apparently the sound editor deleted this word so that Kirk could instantly fall asleep before McCoy enters just a few seconds later.

The bit that bugs me about it is that Uhura hands the skull over to Kirk to smash over Spock's head instead of just doing it herself. How cool would it have been if Uhura had been the one to take Spock out?

I also sort of roll my eyes at the "Captain, I'm..."/"Uhura, you're the only one who can do it" exchange. One of those moments of the show's mid-60s attitudes coming to the fore.

I know it's a Vulcan technique, but i wonder if humans can learn to do the neck pinch. That might have stopped Spock temporallily.:vulcan:

Re:SuperPinch

McCoy gave it a shot when he had Spock's Katra, but I guess the powers that be (at the time) considered it a totally Vulcan thing. Of course this didn't keep them from having McCoy sound exactly like Spock in that same movie.

Wait, didn't Archer use the pinch in Season 4? My logic fails me where Enterprise is concerned. So does my memory. And my appetite.
