Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDANCE!

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

It should be interesting to find out. We have Kira, Vaughn, Ezri all leave DS9 in a short time; I think readers will want to see why.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

According to the blurb the focus will be on Kira and Vaughn. As for anything else we will see.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Well, that blurb sounds more like the beginning of a full synopsis, not the overall description. The blurbs that 8of9 posted on The Trek Collective are from the Pocket Books Catalog, and those are early preliminary descriptions, not the blurb that will actually appear on the back of the book.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Memory Alpha lists it with 352 pages, but that might vary. But it is obviously not a big tome. It is unlikely that all the existing gaps are filled with just one novel. But DS9 continues.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Ok, I'm gonna risk it.....

I don't want more than one novel....

I lose DRGIII's work, especially his novels dealing with DS9 or characters from DS9. However, this storyline is now, in universe, about 8 years in the past. I'd much rather see more novels dealing with the currenct station and crew, than three novels set in the past. It would be 2-3 year before all those novels would be published, since the changed of all three novels within 12 months is unlikely. So, 2-3 years of DS9 novels set back then, and in the meantime, the rest of the 24th century moves along, meaning we'd get another timegap for DS9, where suddenly the new station has been around for a few years, stuff has happened there again, and we're all thinking, geeh, I wish they wouldn't have skipped all those years.....

No, one book, telling us the Ascendents storyline, and the moving on again. :)

I'm completely with you on this.

I'm with you as well. If anyone can give us a large sweeping story in one novel, it's DRG3.

I'm hoping that the Ascendants story is bookended with the current timeframe and has the main body of the story "in the past" as it were. Just the opposite of how DRG3 had parts of his two Lost Era novels take place in 2308 while the main body of the stories took place in 2311 & 2319 respectively.

Does that even make sense?

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

My opinion is that I don't want to see the story rushed, and turned into another To Brave the Storm. So if it takes more than one novel to tell the story properly, then so be it, and I'm fine with that.

That being said... DRGIII is no stranger to some pretty weighty tomes. If this ends up as one Provenance of Shadows-sized epic, then I'm good with that too! :D

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

Remember Kirsten Beyer's Full Circle? In a single book, the storyline of Voyager was brought up to speed and a previous arc to a close. In terms of scope, the book covered several years. Thus, filling a years-long gap and finishing a storyline while tying to the present can be done in one book.

Exactly! So, a Full Circle style novel, of a decent length so you don't have to rush, and all will be covered and done.

Yes it's makes perfect sense this is kind of story telling I hope we'll see in both upcoming Ds9 novels by DRG. I've been wanting to see books dealing with the missing ds9 storyline from the time of Soul key left off with the Ascendants and Kira and Vaughn.

I remember the German edition of it. It was a huge brick.

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

I love the Full Circle idea. This is exactly the treatment this story line needs

Re: Hey, everyone! DRG's DS9 novel after Sacraments is called ASCENDA

In case folks didn't know, I'm going to take this chance to plug that I have already written my own version of the Ascendant conflict, on the assumption this storyline was never going to be revisited in the official novels. I finished up DS9 Season 10 in 2012, and I'm in the midst of DS9 Season 11 now.

So now I'm torn - between wanting to know what ideas DRG3 comes up with and comparing them to my own, and not wanting there to be any official version so that mine stays the only one out there. Obviously I'm going to buy this book, I couldn't not, but it's with mixed feelings.

Now available to pre-buy at Book Depository for UK posters at £4.81:

EDIT: Just caught up with the thread and tracked down the blurb. Oh hell yes! I'd agree with Mage that it can be done as one damn fine novel though. It is needed, as that gaping plot hole needs to be fixed, great that it looks like it will be.

I'm assuming that was said with withering insincerity, so I'll simply reply with "Thanks! I love you too!"
