Dany’s actions weren’t any more sadistic than earlier in the series. The only difference was it was the first time the victim wasn’t someone we thought deserved it. Mostly slave owners, also her brother and a few assassins. They saw evil people being justly punished and assumed without evidence that punishment would only be reserved for evil people and not anyone who opposed her.
The whole point of that story is that her worshippers saw in her what they wanted to see instead of what was there. They filled in the blanks with the story they wanted to tell themselves. The ragers just can’t handle that they did the exact same thing.

I thought the arc was well done. It is best when an unexpected twist can be seen logically when revisiting a story. Those of us who read the novels fully thought that this was Dany's logical conclusion.

Even without cutting between time periods, the show managed to continue its use of non-linear/non-traditional storytelling, which I appreciated, and while I don't yet understand what Dolores' end goal is, she remains one of my favorite characters.
I also can't wait to find out how Bernard heading back to the park island ties in to Dolores rebuilding him solely to provide opposition to her, or how Host Charlotte's privatization of Delos and mandate to rebuild Hosts ties into what Dolores herself is doing, or exactly what Caleb is goimg to do know that an injured Dolores has quite literally fallen into his arms.
Also, as an aside, I completely didn't realize that the role of Liam Dempsey Jr. was played by John Gallagher Jr., whom I know primarily from the OBC of American Idiot, and now I find myself hoping that we haven't seen the last of him.

It's hard to imagine the writers and producers putting this episode together and thinking that audiences would love it. was TERRIBLE. Too long, boring and confusing. I admit, I've wanted to see the world outside the park. But what I've seen is boring. Maeve's storyline looks interesting but that is it. Just a terrible change of course for this show.

I loved it.
Season 1 will always be my favorite because it was a very specific, unique kind of story that they can't repeat. What has followed has been great, but will never achieve that height again.
There were a couple of non-surprise surprises in it, though - "Francis" was obviously an AI, and Delores had obviously set up the monkeys to trap themselves.
I admire Maeve, but I'm pretty much Team Delores.

A lot to chew on but I loved the premiere. I think I knew about Lena Waithe and maybe even Tommy Flanagan appearing in this season, but I had no idea John Gallagher Jr., Pom Klementieff, and Thomas Kretschmann were also going to appear. All of them are great additions to the show, even though it seems unlikely Kretschmann will return. But this is Westworld after all and Flanagan's Martin Connells is already dead but Flanagan will certainly be back, so any thing is possible.
Of course, the biggest new face is Aaron Paul's Caleb and I already quite like him. The man is lost in the world, after a shady past (military and what looks like mercenary work) and can't find his place in the world. And now he's going to find himself square in the middle of Dolores's big plans for the world. Should be fun to watch how that all plays out.
One thing in particular that I really liked was how Bernard had the conscious ability to switch between two different modes, the unassuming humanlike Bernard who is trying to keep his head down and the self-aware Host who has full access to his robotic abilities. Interesting how he has decided to try to remain as incognito as much as possible in the humanlike mode, resorting to the Host mode whenever threatened or needs to check if someone (i.e. Dolores) is fucking with him again.
The one big question left deliberately hanging: Whose spheres are inside of Charlotte and the newly created Martin?
One episode in and we already have a new world to look forward to: NaziWorld and Maeve stuck right in the middle of it. You have to some kind of sick fuck to enjoy role playing during that time period, even as the resistance, but then we already know most of the people who visit are sick fucks so...

I liked it overall. A world building focused episode, establishing the real world status quo of outsourcing our brainpower to AI. And the ex soldier being kicked around by the algorithm looking for real human connection.
It will be a challenge to manage stories with a worldwide scope, it’s not clear yet if they will pull it off, or keep the action plausible in a context where they should be able to call in more reinforcements.
I like the idea that Dolores is targeting people she read the book for and fully understands so she can essentially write narratives for them. But it starts to stretch plausibility that she gets away with it as easily as in the park. I’m most interested in whether she forms a bond with the soldier which ends up changing her perspective on humans.

I remember being rather frustrated with and pissed off by the Season 2 stinger scene involving Host William and Host Emily when "The Passenger" originally aired, but having just completed a rewatch of both Seasons 1 and 2 yesterday (ahead of watching the Season 3 premiere), I found that watching that scene with the contextual knowledge that it takes place many, many years in the future - long beyond the events of all 3 Seasons of Westworld that we've seen to date - and that it won't have any true and immediate bearing on Season 3 made it significantly more palatable, which also improved my overall feelings on the remainder of Season 2, which I had very much enjoyed during my original watch-through up until we got to the stinger scene.
Hubby and I really enjoyed the premiere--so much going on; it was absolutely riveting. Hubby loved the look of it; I loved the character development--very interesting thing going on with Bernard. I am SO glad this show is finally back.

IE, once you realize the multiple timeline thing the novelty wears off and the story isn't much more than a "Robot Rebellion" plot.
