HBO Max Streaming Service Thread

They are the most iconic Green Lanterns by far, so if the passed them up it must be because they have plans for the somewhere else.
I wonder if they're going to turn Alan Scott into a GLC member, or use his origin from the comics?

Iconic status doesn't automatically necessitate narrative significance.

I'm not saying that the characters that are being used aren't being used because they were available and other characters weren't; I'm simply pointing out it's possible that those characters are being used because they were specifically asked for by Berlanti, Guggenheim, and Grahame-Smith.

I'm loving the roster. Jessica Cruz is the only post 2011 new Dc character that I've really liked, and Alan Scott and Guy Gardner have always been some of my favorites. Simon is ok, I'm kind of just neutral towards him. I'll miss John Stewart, but I never liked Kyle Rayner and DC has made me sick of Hal Jordan because of Geoff Johns and a few other writers obsession with making him "THE" Green Lantern, so if I never see him adapted again I wouldn't mind.

Unfortunately, Guggenheim is working on this, and his last Green Lantern project went badly (and from what I've read, even with corporate interference the original script he worked on was only slightly better then the mediocrity we got). Also, with Berlanti's name attached I'm sure were going to hear "Fuck the guardians", and then one of the Lanterns will skull fuck someone to death because its HBO and Berlanti has grown found of edgelord shit in his DC projects.

Also, they're using the New 52 Alan Scott, which sucks. Being connected to "The Green" was idiotic (although I doubt they're adapting that), and Alan with his wife and kids is a thousand times better character then the shitty, boring as fuck New 52 version. They could just make Simon or Jessica LBTGQ+, they can easily work with that with those characters, and keep a version of Alan Scott that resembles the one that existed decades before the assholes that made the New 52 were born and is actually interesting. Even the comics have sent the New 52 version into (probably permanent) limbo and brought back the old version, the New 52 one was one of the most boring characters in the already extremely boring Earth 2 New 52 book.

So, yeah, this is probably going to be almost as bad as the titans, although as bad as Alan will be at least he'll be based off some actual version of the character, unlike shit like the psychotic Dove or Pyromaniac Starfire from Titans.

HBO Max is NOT HBO. Not the same quality, not the same content.

The show is not using the New 52 Alan Scott. Scott is gay in the series.

I am hoping that Hal and John will show up at some point, but I think it is great to see a series focused on the other Lanterns. Cruz and Baz were both really well developed in their Rebirth title. It was one of my top three books of the post 2011 era and I was sorry to see it cancelled.

A recent story implied that the Earth-0 Alan is also gay.
Yeah, I read that but in current continuity we don't really understand anything about how the JSA and old Earth 2 characters fit into the new continuity. The only Alan Scott story I read was in the GL 80th anniversary. The JSA hae also just returned in Hawkman but I haven't read that story yet, so I don't know anything about Scott's orientation.

I watched Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind for the first time earlier this week. I usually go for the subtitled version, but when I saw the cast for the English dub, I decided to go with that version. I'm planning on going through all of the Miyazaki movies on HBO Max, except Spirited Away, which I own.
I loved it, it was a great story, with beautiful animation, and some interesting characters. Miyazaki really does like stories that deal with out relationship with the natural world.
One tiny little thing that bugged is that the dress Nausicaa wore for the last part of the movie seemed to change color without explanation. Unless I missed something?

Yep, Titans is going to HBO Max, so that's all DC Universe shows accounted for. To hype the coming third season, here's a first look at Red Hood:

A trailer for season 3 is coming later this week.

Is it going to come to HBO Max after The CW shows it?
I tried to watch the first episode on The CW, but when they went to two commercial breaks less than 15 minutes into a 2 hour airing, I decided to skip it. I don't mind a few commercial breaks, but if they were starting that early, it was just going to be to much.

I thought that Red Hood was in Titans from episode 1, they just turned Dick Grayson into him in everything but name . The funny thing is, Red Hood would easily be the least violent character on that show if he was 100% comic accurate, and Red Hood (pre New 52 at least, they softened him for the New 52 weirdly enough) was basically the Punisher when it came to how he went about doing things.

It's getting good ratings on CW. Might be resurrected.

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

The CW literally cannot afford the budget required to revive Swamp Thing, which spent its entire allotted production budget just to create the 10 episodes we got.

A lot of people are.
My bad, I meant in this particular instance. I was suggesting the idea that it be resurrected on HBO Max.

I do agree that the show wouldn't be financially feasible for the CW, and even if that did happen, I think it would suffer under the kind of budget the CW would be able to offer it.

There's zero incentive for HBO Max to revive a year-old series that completely squandered its original budget and that would require an equally large budget to bring back.
