HBO Max Streaming Service Thread

I don't know why there seems to be a double standard vis a vis Hulu and Amazon Prime regarding HBO Max being available as an add-on channel.

I had HBO NOW, was happy to see it update to HBO MAX automatically. Much more content for the same cost.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I wasn't planning on signing up for HBO Max right now, but I found out that I have access to it anyway because me and my roommates have HBO as part of our cable package.

Seems like the least exciting of the streaming services. Not that bothered it’s not here on the uk.

Movies leaving HBO Max in July
  • Batman
  • Batman Returns
  • Batman Forever
  • Batman & Robin
  • Catwoman
  • Jonah Hex
  • The Losers
  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
  • Wonder Woman
  • Suicide Squad
  • Justice League

Why even put those movies on the service when they know that they'll have to remove them in 2 months? Why is there even deals that swap movies out of services like this every few months? This has happened on Disney+ too, but at least they seem to be pretty stable at this point. Its pretty ridiculous that the most expensive of the bigger/more mainstream streaming services has this problem, especially when its not exactly justifying its price to a lot of people anyway (myself included in that group, although the fact that its also not on Roku would prevent me from trying it anyway).

There's a lot more, The Hobbit movies (well, apparently not the Rankin Bass version) are leaving soon as well along with Lego Movie and Lego Batman. And with current events, it's bad timing to lose Akeelah and the Bee, Kin, Us, Ma, and Blackkklansman.

I guess it's the nature of HBO that movies come and go if you think of the channel vs being a streaming service. At least they're upfront about it, I appreciate the movies being grouped and easy to find.

My guess is that there is a battle between executives involved with the DC Universe streaming service and executives involved with HBO Max. Some executives want DC movies to stay on DC Universe exclusively, and some executives want HBO Max to benefit from those DC movies. This short-term deal was likely a compromise, and it remains to be seen if this was a one-time thing to benefit HBO Max at launch.

That kind of occurred to me, but rather than a part of HBOMax, they should give you the option of doing a bundle with HBOMax, DCUniverse, and Boomerang, like how Disney let's you do one with Disney+, the ESPN streaming service and Hulu. If I could get all three of those at once for like $20 I'd be very tempted.

If I get HBOGO on Amazon do I get HBO Max? I know you can't directly get HBO Max but does it have the same content?
