HBO Max Streaming Service Thread

Yeah, I was surprised that even HBO Now doesn't seem to be on my LG which has been an otherwise pretty terrific TV. Not being on Amazon Fire is surprising, I was expecting to be able to use that. I have a PS4 as well, even hooked up to the living room TV but that is not ideal.

It's weird though, HBO Max is on Google Play, I guess maybe it could be sideloaded onto Fire but that is just silly.

Where else are you going to find Catwoman, Steel and Supergirl in the same place though?

WarnerMedia had been trying to work out a deal with Roku before Launch Day, but apparently weren't able to finalize things in time.

I’ve been looking at the catalog and it’s pretty impressive. They were able to get a last minute deal for all the Harry Potter movies which is good. I wish they had Batman Beyond and Batman the Animated Series though.

I don't think there's any Hanna Barbera stuff. Does appear to be a lot of classic Looney Tunes.

DC has Batman movies but not Nolan, some Batman animated, DCEU movies. On the CW side, only Batwoman. On the DCU side, only Doom Patrol. DCU is cheaper with more content if that's what you like and has 4K content unlike HBO.

I looked at Boomerang online selection the other day and that seems to be missing a lot of classics. There's Scooby, Flintsones, Jetsons, Jonny Quest but where's Thundarr, Space Ghost, Frankenstein Jr, Herculoids, Josie, Speed Buggy and so on?

They're not grouped together in a content hub, but they are all available on the service.

This was all I needed. I had the HBONOW icon on my iPad but never used it. I had to get that icon updated from the App Store and then I was able to log on to Max.

Started watching Doom Patrol, which is one of the main things I wanted to check out. It’s a bit dark, isn’t it.

It's...different, lol. I'd say the journey can be dark but the destination is not.

Of course, if Amazon really cared so much about their customers' access to HBO Max, they might try and make a better offer. But no, way better to stir up public opinion.

Amazon wants WarnerMedia to let Amazon customers who get HBO Now as a Prime Video Channel to be allowed to access HBO Max as a Prime Video Channel, meaning that those people wouldn't be doing business with WarnerMedia at all or using the HBO Max app, both of which go against WarnerMedia's strategies and goals for the service's launch.

Not every person who accesses HBO Now through Amazon devices does so through Prime Video Channels, though, so what the two companies should be focusing on is the HBO Max app being made available on Amazon Fire devices even if they never reach a compromise on the Prime Video Channel thing.

Oh, cool. Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, Johnny Quest, and The Jetsons are the HB shows I'm most interested, so that works for me.

This seems kind of silly to me, HBOMax is meant to be competitor for Amazon Prime, so of course they're not going to let people get it through Amazon Channels. I know they do have CBS All Access, but that's not quite at the same kind of level as HBOMax, so they're probably not as concerned.

HBOMax's content chief Kevin Reilly has said that Doom Patrol is the only DCUniverse show that's going to be on HBOMax, and that Justice League Dark and Green Lantern will have "the highest level of cinematic production values".
I'm glad to hear that they are going to be willing to give these shows the budget they need to really work.

This seems kind of silly to me, HBOMax is meant to be competitor for Amazon Prime, so of course they're not going to let people get it through Amazon Channels. I know they do have CBS All Access, but that's not quite at the same kind of level as HBOMax, so they're probably not as concerned.

I can download CBSAA, Disney+, Hulu, Netflix, and HBO NOW on my Kindle and my Fire TV stick. I can't download HBOMax. There are a lot of people who access streaming services through Amazon devices who are potentially missing out.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense that the app isn't available on Amazon devices. I was talking about getting it through Amazon Channels, which is a service where you pay for the service or channel through Amazon and then watch it on the Amazon Prime streaming service.
We do our Britbox subscription through Amazon Channels.

I just got on Hulu and apparently HBOMax is available as an add on there. Now I'm confused, it's weird they'd allow have it available as a Hulu add on, but not part of Amazon Prime Channels.

The problem from Amazon's point of view, is that ATT is allowing other entities to sell H-Max, but doesn't want to allow Amazon the same. As they have already been doing (with HBO Now). Why are they being subjected to a different standard than the other distributors? That's what we're missing here.
