HBO Max Streaming Service Thread

AT&T (plus now-outgoing Warner CEO) was responsible for the strategy to release major 2021 Warner films on HBOMax at the same time as theatres. They also pulled the trigger on that decision without consulting with anybody who made (or even, in some cases, owned) those films. That did a ton of damage to Warners' reputation in the industry.

Except possibly for Dune. Deadline reported it will have a 45 day window, same as Disney is doing with Shang Chi - which is the best solution. WB said Deadline is wrong.

Personally, I suspect Deadline is right and either the agreement just hasn't been quite finalized yet, it's conditional on how the box office rebounds over the next few months, or WB wanted to make the announced at a different time/way and not on the same day as the sale/merger broke.

Glad to see HBO max and HGTV coming together. In a year, I won't even need the ATT cable package anymore. Just 6 or so apps on my Apple TV and an antenna (for THE PATS) and all my entertainment needs will be more than satisfied. Death to cable!

New animated Batman series coming to Cartoon Network and HBO Max: https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/ba...-bruce-timm-jj-abrams-matt-reeves-1234975668/

Great, the man who has turned into a giant edgelord gets to ruin Batman in series form. Well, at least it seems to be getting made with Cartoon Network, so he won't be able to do the shitty adult "jokes" he's become obsessed with. Hopefully it seeming to be a Batman early in his career (based off of the design in the promo pic) also means we also don't get more of the horrifying Bruce/Barbara shipping that Timm has an u healthy obsession with, either.

So I wonder if we'll be seeing JJ Abrams name on more DC projects now? He's been working on the Justice League Dark stuff, and now he's a producer on this.
I have absolutely no problem with that since I have enjoyed pretty much everything he's been involved with.
I find it a little funny that he's working on the TV side of DC, when the first comic he co-wrote was a Spider-Man comic for Marvel.

Honestly, I don't think he even read the script. His son wanted to write a Spider-Man comic, Abrams called Marvel, Marvel said Yes provided they can put his name on it.

I'm not really worried about Abrams' involvement in this. Abrams the producer is a lot different than Abrams the writer/director, and I doubt he's going to have much actual input because he'll be more busy with the live action stuff.

Yeah, this is probably an in name only thing, which is what most stuff with Abrams name on it as a producer seems to be these days. He's got two other shows that he's credited as creator, writer, and director for, so those are probably where his focus will be.

I could definitely see that happening.

Not sure why they turn Madame Xanadu into Madame X. Makes her sound like a Marvel mutant.

Online search of Madame X gives it as the title of a Madonna concert tour.
