Yikes, poor guy--hope his recovery is a smooth one. Writing him out to go do training or something makes sense. I wonder if one episode will do it.

From the sound of it, they're way ahead on the production schedule, and the current episode that's being filmed (2x20) is very Max-centric. That leaves them with just three more episodes to film and then the season can wrap.

BTW, some of the comments on that article comparing O'Laughlin to Charlie Sheen... sheesh, anonymous assholes on the internet.

I enjoyed it a lot as well, though I'll admit I missed James Caan's name in the credits and wasn't sure it was him. I thought the character looked a little like Caan, but he seemed too old. Last thing I saw him in was Elf, so in my mind's eye that's what James Caan still looked like. :D Anyway, he was great and hope he makes a return appearance at some point.

I find it interesting that his people and CBS didn't make any effort to cover up why he was taking time off. Probably for the best to avoid the rumor mill spiraling out of control.

I'm looking forward to a Kamekona standalone episode during O'Laughlin's absence. Maybe Danno can move in with him or something. ;)

    Five-0 comes back tonight!

This is the episode mentioned a few pages ago, with Ed Asner reprising his guest appearance from the original Five-O from 1975 as an art smuggler; apparently McGarrett's sister is involved, too.

Ugh...McGarrett's sister is annoying. Other than that I'm looking forward to tonight. I'm really interested in seeing how they integrate the scenes from the original into the reboot.

Also since Alex O'Laughlin is in rehab Daniel Dae Kim is taking his place in the upcoming 5-0/NCIS LA crossover episode of NCIS LA.

Oh, I'd forgotten about that. Damn, I guess I'm going to have to watch NCIS:LA one more time. :p

Ed Asner's befuddled, seemingly reformed old man schtick had me fooled. That old bastard was still a mean old son of a bitch. Looks like Angela got fooled too...now bitch is dead. Hope they bring Asner back so we can see the old bastard get his due.

He had me fooled, too! I totally thought he was a harmless old man. Now I feel like I need to go back and watch the original episode. It was free on iTunes yesterday so I downloaded it... not sure if it still is or not.

Oh, how I love Steve and Danno's banter. The scenes before the opening credits were priceless. I loved Steve apologizing for Danny's bad surfing etiquette, Danny's protests, and then their interaction with Steve's sister. Danny being a little hurt by Steve's comment to his sister that they were just "kind of surfing buddies" was hilarious, too. Loved the surprise birthday party, and the two cakes... a gun and a grenade. Beyond cute.

Really great episode! I think the next new one isn't until April 9th, though.

Reallly good episode last night. It's nice to be taken by surprise with an ending once and a while. The end with Asner was awesome. I liked how they utilized the old footage as well. Asner is OLD but can still bring it.

This episode also had a lot of call backs to previous episodes.

The whole time I was thinking if they turned March into puff pastry it would totally betray the series. I knew they couldn't and wouldn't because he was such a dirtbag in "Wooden Model Of A Rat" and so this ending was right on the money. I was never worried ;) Nice to see Tony Todd all badass again, btw. And thanks to the production team for the "In Loving Memory" to Rose Freeman at the end.

When Tony Todd shows up, you know that a) he is the villain and b) you are fucked!

She was the wife of original series producer Leonard Freeman who took over the reins after his death in 1974. If you are at all familiar with the beloved western series The Rifleman, (as Joan Taylor) she played the character, "Miss Millie."

But he was a charming, very cultured dirtbag, and Asner and the writers definitely nailed that this week, particularly the scene where March and Kono examine the diamond in Fong's lab.

I noticed that, too. A nice touch on their part. They did something similar last season when James MacArthur died, didn't they?

I'm pretty sure they did, biggles :techman:

The "marriage" banter was particularly funny this week ("Are we being sensitive right now..? :guffaw:) but my favorite Caan moment was after the prisoner threatened Danno's daughter. Note to anyone who threatens Danno's daughter: unless you want every bone in your body broken, don't go there!!

I loved the marriage banter this week. I bet Steve had to, uh, revise the "kind of" surfing buddies comment to his sister after the surprise party.

I actually thought the thing with Danny's daughter was a little much, coming just a few episodes after she actually was kidnapped. It's just so cliched and expected. But I agree that Danny's reaction was perfect. Scott Caan is so great in the role!!

I loved seeing the bad cop guy go into general population at the end. He ain't gonna last long... :)
