Has Anyone Ever Regretted Getting a Cat?

So yesterday I didn't get home from class till after 11PM. Within the first fifteen minutes of getting home, Comet climbed all over the metal racks in the kitchen (he knows he's not supposed to), went in our bedroom, jumped on a nightstand, stuffed his whole face in a glass of water and knocked it over, and then jumped from the couch to our dining table (you know, the one with Waterford linens and crystal candlesticks).

*sigh*

Cats have excellent design taste. They're able to locate the most expensive items in your home and make sure to destroy them first.

He loves napping on me though, and I love him when he's cuddly. I'm a bit worried that he's going to love my husband and not be that attached to me, since my husband works from home and I'm often out of the house, or busy when I am at home.

Like tonight, I came home and ran for an hour, then had to get dinner, then had homework. I still have work to do. Do cats get upset if one person doesn't spend as much time with them or pay them as much attention? He seems to act up a bit when I get home.

Cats can be odd when it comes to liking people. For years I was the favourite person of my mother's cat, despite not being around during the day (now she likes everyone equally, but that's just old age :p). But she always came to me when I got home, wanting to be held and cuddled while purring like a chainsaw.

So there's no telling who your cat while prefer most, if he'll prefer either of you over the other that is. Some cats, especially tomcats, just like anyone who brings them food.

It is very, very cold where I live right now and I also have to keep the thermostat very low due to the many drafts and leaks in my house. For the past two nights, my Calico has been working her way under the covers when she sleeps with me. I swear, not a day goes by that she doesn't do something absolutely goofy

Gorgeous kitty Kestra! Comet looks like my two kitties, Gimli & Chance.

I mean, cats hunt birds and fish...but do they hunt pigs? Is pork a normal part of their diet? It just seems weird.

My male cat Gimli once stole a pork chop right off my wife's plate when she wasn't paying close enough attention.

Alex loves raw pork, whenever we buy some we have to cut a few pieces off for her to eat first.

And yes Cats tend to react differently to different people.

Shimmy gets all wonky over these frigid nights - he wants to sleep outside all night like in the summer and even though he has a toasty cat house, it's pretty frigid overnights lately. So he's a real bitch after midnight going in out in out... if I don't get up he'll wimper coyly and work his way up to louder cries. Then, like last night, I get about 2-3 hours sleep... :klingon: His come-uppance is in the mail

^I believe your advice has come a bit too late.

Indeed.

Oh..uh..ok..sorry about that then. Just that I've been busy and everything and didn't realize that I was late in my advice giving.

I have a friend who is TERRIFIED of cats! She thinks that they are the devil's reincarnate waiting to get her! She's a longtime friend who was cleaning our house one day a long time ago and had happened to come across one of our cats in my closet. She went berserk and screamed: GET THIS THING OUTTA HERE!! OH LORD JESUS! :guffaw: I told her: it's just a cat! She said: I don't care, get it outta here! She HATES cats!
:guffaw:

Great!

Yeah..it was quite hilarious. It's just a cat for pete sake that wouldn't hurt a fly! How the hell can you be scared of an innocent pussycat!? The people who get me really angry are the ones who think they're too prim and proper to have a cat..one girl at college made a fuss that she was extremely allergic to them and couldn't stand them.

Beverly's done that ever since she was a kitten. Even if it's 104 degrees out there, under the covers she goes. And she stays under there for hours on end.

Ah, kittens. Don't worry, he'll calm down in 2 or 3 years.

My cats are basically living under the covers these days. :vulcan:

My cat slept under the covers for a few months, but she stopped. It might be because I just have a blanket on my bed now instead of my full comforter.

I think I'm slightly smitten already. I had my husband do a video chat with me from work today so I could see the kitten.

Also, we're trying to teach him certain things (don't climb on bakers racks and knock all the plates down, don't launch yourself at people's heads, etc.) but I have the sneaking suspicion that he's training us. :shifty:

That's how it goes. You train dogs, cats train you.

Just know that there will be some trying times for the first couple of years (just like human children). There are also going to be somethings, you'll have to learn to overlook and adapt to.

Depends on the cat.

The idea of a fluffy little kitty cat being terrifying to someone is crazy.

Sounds like a grueling day. Why do you "have" to get dinner if your spouse has been at home all day? Especially seeing as you have loads of things lined up when you get in.

I can't judge, I'm terrified of spiders!
