Has anyone ever joined WWOOF / NEWOOF?

World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, USA (WWOOF-USA) is part of a world-wide effort to link volunteers with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

It's pretty much, you go and work on the farm and they let you live there, and they sometimes feed you. Most of them you don't get paid, which is BS, I mean $20 a week too much for these places? I know it's volunteering but I would need a little spending money, and I have student loans I need to pay off.

There is also NEWOOF which seems better (aka they give you money) because it's apprenticeship.

So pretty much I'm wondering if anyone has ever joined these groups or another farming apprenticeship group or anything similar?

Was it this WWF?

I like how I can make a topic no one has a clue what I'm taking about but they can still have fun!

I have never heard of it before but one of those links you supplied in the OP offers a list of (third party) articles that makes me think I might have done something like that had I been 20-30 years younger and still studying; sounds like a reasonably nice way to spend, say, a summer holiday.

Oh, and this:
