Pike seemed quite stiff and wooden. Kirk always seemed to be throbbing with energy. Unfortunatly Shatner always gave the supporting actors the shaft.
Both actors and characters certainly had a strong head and were capable of spurts of intensity. Things are looking up for both of them and they are both likely to lend a hand.

I remember Spock yelling a lot when he was with Pike.
