Happy 10th Anniversary, NuBSG

2. Galactica plunging through the atmosphere of New Caprica to come to the rescue of the settlers, burning all the way down until jumping out again right above the city. Sweet!

That is my all-time favourite Sci-Fi F/X sequence. I even turned the sequence into an animated gif.

Agree. :techman: Brilliant gif. :)

I loved the finale. :)

I didn't start out enamoured of the show, but it won me over in much the same way TNG did in its day. Hard to believe it's been ten years.

I thought in "Daybreak" that they were going to build the city of Atlantis, but it was not to be.:vulcan:

I thought that might happen too. I can't say I was completely happy with the finale, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the series as a whole.

I was hooked as soon as I watched the mini.
I was indifferent after the mini series. Then a year later I was completely blown away by the teaser for "33" and became a fan right then and there. The production values were a cut above what you usually see on televised scifi and it captured the spirit of BSG quite well.

I like to entertain the idea that Atlantis did happen. There was time for it to exist and its rise and fall fits perfectly with the theme of the show.

The reason it's not widely mentioned is because lots of watchers hated it, along with everything else about the finale.
A lot of people hated the finale itself but I never knew that some hated the actual twist. The best I've heard is that the characters had become so reprehensible and the finale was such a letdown that they just didn't care.
NuBSG definitely had a lot of great moments, but I did find myself not liking too many of the characters towards the end of the series (I really hated what they did with Starbuck/not Starbuck and will always wish they hadn't gone that route).

Can't believe it's already been 10 years. There were some great moments in the series, but I find it to be slightly overrated. It is still a series worth revisiting and I actually did put it in my Netflix Queue. Might get around to rewatching it eventually.

Some answers would have been nice but not having any did fit the more grounded tone of the show. There are mysterious forces out there that we can't explain and that's that. I don't usually like it when they drop the ball like that, but it worked for me in this instance. They did something similar with Lost and I didn't like it.

If you read The Final Five comic, it sheds some light on what happened to Starbuck.

Starbuck died and her life was taken over by an angel who likes to work in the flesh. Having taken physical form, the angel forgot who she really was and became Starbuck for all intents and purposes, but at the same time she wasn't, if you want to look at it that way.

Ugh, I was afraid it was something crazy like that. Makes it even worse for me, unfortunately.

I like this a lot. It goes down better for me than a resurrection or "ghost" type scenario.

Loved nuBSG. Hadn't watched the mini, kinda because I hated the original series. Thought it was cheesy and obvious SW rip.

But I saw "33" and was hooked. One of the most gripping one hour drama's ever, in any genre. I used to try to sell it to my sister, who doesn't like Sci-Fi, as "The Sopranos" in space.

But the show was marked by the superb ensemble acting -- some of the best I've seen. My favorite acting job though, was Michael Hogan's, Tigh. Hogan took that character everywhere, from down in the depths alcoholic loser to tough as nails soldier, to lover, husband, father, freeedom fighter, spiritual being. Will never forget the very real slap and punch between him and Tricia Helfer. I am so glad that SAG honored this cast some years ago. Just great.

My favorite moment; there were so many. Most have been named already. But finding "Cylon" earth and the devastating effect it had on the Gallactica crew including it's commander just rocked me.

I thought the finale trilogy was one of the best I've ever seen and totally in keeping with who the show was and what it had been about.

I had thought about mentioning in passing Adama and Roslin's respective mental and physical breakdowns in the wake of finding Cylon Earth, but ultimately couldn't figure out how to do it seamlessly, which is sad because I loved that the writers went in that direction. It was a brilliant decision that really drove home just how impactful the shattering of everyone's hopes truly was and made the discovery of OUR Earth all the more satisfying.

To me, it seems like 10 years since I've seen the show...it's been too long....

I thought that Cylon Earth obviously wasn't our Earth because they went out of their way not to show us anything that would distinctly identify it as such.

I loved the finale and the last half-season in general. The moment when, after all they'd been through, they found our Earth in its primal, prehistoric majesty was beautiful.

And yeah, the Galactica freefall was a fantastic scene worthy of the top 5.

I'm not into making a list, but one moment that made me all tingly was in the map room on Kobol, when Starbuck realizes that they're (virtually) standing on Earth.

And oh yeah, hello...? ADAMA GETTING SHOT!

Well hell, that's four things, let me think of a fifth....

I know...the One Year Later jump...it was ballsy and it was real.

Wow! Seems my life is slipping by so fast and I'm marking it with the major anniversaries of the shows I love.

I know. Stop posting thread titles that make me feel old!

(Although, for me, the big stunner was when I was told it was the 10th anniversary of the series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

Honorable mentions to Roslin changing the whiteboard at the end of "33", and the first appearance of Head Baltar--a great mind-frak moment...and didn't we all think that he was a Cylon for a couple seconds there...?

I'm currently rewatching the series with my brother, who is a new viewer. We just started season 3 the other day.

I became hooked with the show ever since I watched the mini series shortly before the series began. The mini may be my personal favorite pilot episode, even if it wasn't technically a pilot episode. I think the 3 hour length really allowed enough time to set up the show and get to know the characters better.

I'm happy to hear that there are people out there who loved the show from beginning to end. Seems I can't find a conversation about the show without it turning into a bitch fest about the last two and a half seasons.

Anyway, off the top of my head I personally loved the Caprica arc with Helo and Sharon and later Starbuck and Anders. It was cool seeing more going on than just what was happening on Galactica.

I thought the New Caprica stuff was great. It sprung up from nothing in the span of two episodes and then it jumped forward a year. That was a risky move, but I believe it helped the show evolve as the post New Caprica stuff was pretty gripping.

I enjoyed the arc involving Pegasus, from her first appearance to her destruction under the command of Lee Adama. I welcome anything that will disrupt the status quo. To me a show has to build new bridges and knock down old ones to hold my interest. This show does it in spades.

Anyway I'm at work right now, so I can't say much more.
