HAHA! I WAS RIGHT!

1. Starfleet is NOT the US Military.

and

2. EVERYTHING is changed now (and for future movies/shows).

Live with it....
Embrace it...
It's all you're getting.

If you don't like it, go read a book (or climb a mountain).

At this point, I really couldn't give a shit if people didn't like this movie.

I've seen it. Twice. It was fucking awesome.

I know it was a great movie. I know because I was there. :techman:

OMIGAWD!! I had to register just to post this!

Cadet corps =/= Academy cadets!!!!!!!!

I am a Civil Air Patrol (USAF Auxiliary) cadet, I am NOT an Air Force Academy Cadet. They, in fact can be called to combat situations.

Sorry bub.....

Space is under *NAVAL* jurisdiction.

Haha.

My point still holds though.

Sea Cadet Corps =/= Naval Academy Cadets.

OP: You're right. Feel better?

Oh, by the way: the movie is great, and apparently selling well. I suggest Tums.

Yes I do, thank you!

;)

As far as selling well, who to?

As has already been pointed out, this is just another action flick, not Star Trek. So if a bunch of non-ST people go see it, does that signify anything meritous?

......Not from where I sit. Most of the "old hands" like myself are disappointed.

But, if this is the end of ST, then I guess it's just as good an ending as anything else.

:borg:

Okay. You were right.

Doesn't matter, because the truly moronic among us are lining up to drink JJ's bathwater again. One review I read gave it five stars. Out of five.

Apparently, people want 90210 In Space.

Then it's not Trek, it's just another action movie.

:borg:
Really? I thought it had a "TOS Vibe" to it. Perhaps not a TNG vibe, but it definitely had a TOS feel.

and why it didn't suck. :techman:

But this was not Trek, it was just a bunch of 20 something blowing things up in space. I didn't have to do any contemplating about this movie's deeper meaning whatsoever........Because there was none.

:shifty:

How did you miss all the self-sacrifice, the teamwork, the pursuit of excellence and enthusiam to serve. How did you miss our noble characters coming to life right before us. How did you miss the human flaws accepted and made good. How did you miss the growing friendships.

How did you miss all these things that make star trek what it is: an exporation of the human condition and the hope for a better future as free individuals.

How did you miss all these things if you feel you gave the film the attention it deserved.

Because you cannot accept diversity, adapt or accept that amongst change some things do endure; you monolithically stick to our own opinion regardless as if your word is divine.

Evolution teaches us that is the road to extinction. Don't wish it onto the future of our species, i beg you.

You mean like Bruce Willis did in the movie "DIE HARD"?

Like the Punisher saved the little girl in the most recent movie?

Yes, that there will be another. Possibly many more.

Most of the old hands loved it. Look at the polls here. We are hardly talking about non-ST people, as you call them. Hardcore fans, enough to register to a Star Trek board. 70% of old hands here think it is Excellent.

Stop feeling like an elite. Being outnumbered doesn't mean you are smarter.

Sorry dude, Kirk was very young when he got to "Captain" a starship. In "The Deadly Years" , Kirk makes a point of telling you his age, because he's afflicted with the degenerating disease that strongly resembles aging. His age then....34. Check the episode. Plus, once Nero and Spock were sucked into the singularity, ie, Black Hole, the entire timeline was irrevocably changed. Vulcan was destroyed, Spocks mom died, and because Kirks father died ensuring he and his mother lived, he has no brother now. Now there are two splcks in this universe. This opens the door for a new "History of Trek" to be written. Time travel is amazing as a movie plot. There is a huge time paradox in there for the future, but I can't get into that now. Peace and Long Life! \\//!

No, time travel is an over-used "cheat" to avoid doing any RESEARCH, which JJ begrudgingly admits he has never done.

Your comment just proved my point. Why did you even bother quoting my answer in your post?

Bullshit. I'm an old hand, and I loved it.

The sooner we stop acting like an exclusive little club, the better.

"non-ST people." Oy gevalt.

......Not from where I sit. Most of the "old hands" like myself are disappointed.

I am 'old hand' - I watched TOS on its first run back in the 1960s and I have watched every episode of the entire franchise - and I loved this movie.

Yeah, the old timers I've talked to love it. I started watching in 1966, myself. I'm totally smitten.

I'm sorry to hear it, but Star Trek is not your personal clubhouse.

And let me also report that all the old hands I know loved it.

err... kirk was 25, did you watch the film? Even in Tos kirk mentioned he was 34, this had been after he was in command for a few years.

Also in this timeline Kirk went to the accademy later then he did in TOS because he had no father that inspired him to join starfleet

Yeah, in the original TOS timeline Kirk took command in 2265 at age 32. Two years later he mentioned his then-age in "The Deadly Years."

Um, no.......My point was that this was no different than any other action film, and I used your point to prove mine.

Checkmate.
