Literal translations of old comic book drawings = silly looking movie. Of course they need concept art; there's no other way to work out practical designs.
It'd be like taking the 1966 version of the Enterprise and using it in a huge contemporary version of the show - uh-uh.
Bad example, since you know damn well that a huge group of people here are now saying, "Ummm, what's wrong with that?"
And ruined the balance of the costume in the process.GL should still be aerodynamic. But please, no green swimsuit pattern over black tights. Even the comic books have eliminated that costume design. One thing I do hope they change is to give the GL uniform a belt or some pockets or something. Much as I love GL and GLC, they all look vaguely silly wearing skin-tight spandex without any pockets whatsoever.

Huge group? Nah - around here, maybe a dozen vocal types.
Good example, since the people actually charged with making such decisions knew better and made a more successful choice. Same would be true with any competent group making these movies, and therefore is to be expected here.![]()
...if the filmmakers used the same design from the original show...

But they didn't and wouldn't have - only fans would. That's the point.
That's another way of looking at it. Green Lantern's costume designer (the name escapes me) won an Oscar for LOTR. She'll figure something out.And ruined the balance of the costume in the process.GL should still be aerodynamic. But please, no green swimsuit pattern over black tights. You don't get to have your cake and eat it, too. You either use the original design or you do not.The producers of the new film went with a new design, which worked...but the film would probably have been just as successful had they stuck with the original design, or something closer to it.
I think both Enterprise and the retouched TOS eps have proven that the original design doesn't have to appear as such.A piece of cheap white plastic wobbling around on strings and with a satellite dish glued on to the front
It's misguided to think that cut-and-paste design would have been acceptable. So, too, with making fifty year old comic book drawings into costumes.
Just because you would have found it unacceptable, doesn't mean it would have been. You should look at your signature for advice. You are working off a false assumption that if they decided to use the TOS Ent, it would look like a cheesy studio prop from the 60s. Undoubtedly, it would have been rendered using the same technology that made the NuEnt.
