Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Wasn't Krona the guy who was punished by God because he dared to look at the Hubble images?

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Yeah, God smote Krona with ALS, confined him to a wheelchair capable of only beeping once for "Yes" and twice for "No," and sentenced him to be looked after by the NHS.

Or something.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I only recently saw the trailer -- it's available on YouTube and IMDB.com -- and I like what I see. I think Reynolds was well cast as Hal Jordan/GL. Although it appears one of the main villains is Hector Hammond -- not one of my GL faves -- Sinestro makes an appearance. Also, Tom Kalmalku makes an appearance, as does Jon Stewart, so I think if the flick is successful, there will be a Jon Stewart GL.

BTW, I like the "I know, right" scene. So sue me!

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

One of the appealing things about GL is that there are other human characters - Stewart, Gardner - who can be "swapped in" as a series of films progresses without deviating at all from the god-blessed "source material."

As much as I'm looking forward to this movie, I'm not getting my hopes up about a GL movie franchise (though of course Warner Bros is). Green Lantern is very skiffy, a bit exotic and maybe a little silly for mainstream audiences to accept as action fare no matter how well-done. I get a huge kick out of seeing Tomar-Re hovering above Oa like that, but that's also an image that's really distant from plausibility... this movie is likely to be very expensive when all is said and done, and I expect it to return a decent profit to the studio but not necessarily to be the kind of mega-hit that will give them confidence going forward. I'd love to have my expectations surprised (but that's almost always true).

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

In keeping with the proposed change to "Green Lantern -- Rumors, Pictures, whatever," file this under rumors:

Cosmic News said:
Some interesting comments surfaced in regards to the Green Lantern Movie from "one manager" and an "agent" (bold my own):

NY Magazine's Vulture blog said:
And both are also quick to say that should the forthcoming Green Lantern flop (and it's been a troubled production), it won't hurt Lively much. Says the manager, "Whatever the mistakes were with Green Lantern, she needs to not react to them and do an indie movie just because a big superhero movie didn't work. It's always about the role and the director. The hotter the person, the easier it is, and she's very hot right now." The agent adds, "Even though Green Lantern is supposed to be terrible, it doesn’t mean it’s not going to do extremely well and enhance her foreign value. Clash of the Titans was horrendous, but it didn’t slow down Sam Worthington any."

Personally, I think Lively is miscast, so it'll be interesting to see if that helps or hurts her. She came off as really flat and boring the little we see of her in the preview.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

And of course an agent's gonna discredit the film and pump the actress.

Also... I don't pay much attention, but I really haven't seen Sam Worthington's bandied around a whole lot since "Clash."

Comedy, courtesy of X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaugh:

Asked if he’s concerned about the glut of superhero film competition this summer — with “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Green Lantern” and ”Thor” – Vaughn said that, if anything, it’s the other guys who should be nervous. “With ‘Green Lantern,’ I don’t know about that one, I couldn’t get my head around the trailer, to be honest … look, I will say the following: X-Men as a brand is bigger than Captain America, Thor and the Green Lantern, all put together.”

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

It's true that X-Men is the biggest brand of that group - if that's what he depends upon for the success of a film he does, though, he'll take more than his share of lumps before his career is done.

My own interests are idiosyncratic - Captain America and Green Lantern are likely the only two superhero movies I'll bother with this year. As a rule this is a lame genre no matter how much money is spent on a film, and worthwhile superhero movies are few and far between.

Nice to see from the toy line that the movie includes the evolutionarily blind Green Lantern - he has that "F Sharp Bell" on his outfit. :techman:

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

If the scale of these toys is an accurate indication of the size of the characters in the movie then the Guardians are going to be bigger than they are in the comics.

Edit to add: Here's a trailer for Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, the movie's video game tie-in. The game uses the same designs as the movie, but not the same plot.

It hasn't been posted here yet, but it was confirmed a few weeks ago that James Newton Howard will be the composer for Green Lantern.
