Green Lantern (2011)

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

The weird thing is, this seems more like a Jon Favreau film from the trailer than something by Martin Campbell.

It's especially weird since Cowboys & Aliens looks surprisingly darker than I was expecting and I wouldn't have batted an eyelash if you told me it was directed by Martin Campbell.

It's like these two trailers switched sensibilities or something.

However, Campbell has his share of misfires as he does his hits: he is, after all, the same director that has brought us The Legend of Zorro (an inferior sequel to a much better movie) and Vertical Limit.

I have faith in Campbell, and I'm confident Green Lantern will be good, but I can understand people's hesitations.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I still can't get over how bad Lively's line readings are. Actually, I hope that she says every line in the movie like that. It'll be the finest comedy of 2011.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I just saw the full trailer on Yahoo, after being blissfully ignorant of the development of this project, and am coming out of board retirement to give my 2 cents:
I didn't want to like this movie. Not wild about the organic costume, but it could have been a lot worse. And the little girl playing Carol may be the worst actress to ever collect a paycheck.
All that said: it looks like they've visually really captured the comic book. And I can live with a Hal Jordan who starts out irresponsible and does a 180, as cliched as that is.
I'm actually optimistic.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Anyone checked out the poster and played "Spot the Lantern"? I've picked out Olapet, Boodikka, Saalak (his silhouette is duplicated on the poster's far left side), possibly Stel and who I think is Hannu. It might be Kilowog, but he doesn't appear to be wearing a shirt. They're all below Hal's arm with Stel closest to him and Olapet and Boodikka easily recognizable by their body shape and headgear respectively.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Great. Another actress that can't act in a superhero movie. Where to the directors keep getting them from?

Presumably from fanboy wishlists. Just dig up any thread about casting for a superhero flick, and you'll see plenty of suggestions for actresses with similar or less acting chops.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

It's not just actresses - the list of "fan favorite" actors for various parts based on nothing but perceived facial resemblance is long and ridiculous.

If that poster represents the scale they're going for with this thing, I'll be very pleased.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

It appears to be based on the scene where Sinestro addresses the Corps. Word is we're supposed to see all 3600 Lanterns at some point in the film. That scene's the best bet.

To all you trailer-critics, opining as if you've seen the completed film, Blake Lively was approved by WB after they screened The Town, in which she appears.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Well, considering that only the trailer has been released, all we can be are trailer critics. :D

Obviously there are cases where the trailer turns out to be much better than the film and cases where the film ends up better than the trailer. In this case, the trailer is questionable at best. The juxtaposition of dialogue meant to evoke an "every man" vibe with a hotshot pilot who spends his days and nights with ridiculously attractive women (portrayed by seemingly subpar actresses), along with cartoonish-looking CGI, put the film in a less-than-flattering light.

Personally, I've had almost no exposure to GL and this trailer does absolutely nothing to make me want to see the film.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I just hope that they haven't really shown anything other from than the first act and a half. GL saying he can create anything he imagines and then having a shot of a green fist taking out some bullies is kinda underwhelming.

LOL Other than Pepper Potts I can't think of any spot on female casting from the modern superhero movie age.

Are we counting Michelle Pfiefer (sp?) in BATMAN RETURNS. She made a pretty memorable Catwoman.

I also liked Famke Jannsen (sp?) as Jean Grey, and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane . . . .
