Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Are we counting Michelle Pfiefer (sp?) in BATMAN RETURNS. She made a pretty memorable Catwoman
Nah, they made such a mess of that character (and movie) that not even Pfieffer couldn't save it.

I did quite like Janssen though.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

It's not just actresses - the list of "fan favorite" actors for various parts based on nothing but perceived facial resemblance is long and ridiculous.

It comes beyond that with some -

"A new blade film? Nathan Fillion would be perfect!"

I think he was suggested for every superhero role outside of the Invisible woman.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Great. Another actress that can't act in a superhero movie. Where to the directors keep getting them from?
LOL Other than Pepper Potts I can't think of any spot on female casting from the modern superhero movie age.

Paltrow as Pepper Potts was one of those rare superhero love interests that actually brought something to the table. Iron Man 2 was a complete shitfest though.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Though I don't necessairly agree with it, isn't Margot Kidder's Lois Lane often lauded by fans?

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I'm sorry, but Margot Kidder was not attractive at all. I have no idea what Superman saw in her.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

At all? In the timeframe, she was a 7 or 8.

I mean, there was, as it turned out, something wrong with her, but it's not like she had flipper hands or anything.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Even Zod's ladyfriend made a comment about Superman's low standards.

Actually, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Kidder "was not attractive at all." She just isn't in the same league as the super-perfect-looking women of Hollywood these days. But that's hardly a knock on a woman's beauty.

Oh, no. I agree. But her playing of Lois is often complemented and regarded fairly highly. Which, yeah, I never saw. Not only was Kidder not nearly as attractive as Lois should be, had the personality of a counter-worker at a truck-stop she also had a voice of a 6-pack a day smoker. Impressive ruining of her a voice for a woman who was around 30 or so at the time.

No, for me Kidder was a terrible Lois. But many people seem to have liked her. I don't see it. Clark should've gone after Lana (played by a hot, red-haired Annette O'Toole) instead. ;)

I think Kate Bosworth made a better Lois as far as looks go and maybe on a degree or so when it comes to the personality and abrassiveness but looked (at at times acted) a bit too young for a Pulitzer-Prize winning star reporter for a Modern Metropolitan Newspaper. ;)

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Maybe Margot Kidder didn't look like a supermodel, but she had plenty of spunk and personality--which is what really matters where Lois is concerned. Heck, it's not like Noel Neill was the second coming of Greta Garbo either. When did we decide that Lois had to be beauty queen?

Kate Bosworth was pretty enough, but way too bland and young-looking to be a good Lois. She made me appreciate Erica Durrance a whole lot more!

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I wasn't a fan of Margot Kidder's Lois. Found her to be annoying at times. I think Erica Durance's portrayal of Lois during her first two years on "Smallville" is among the definitive portrayals of the character, not so much currently. The writers have been writing Lois like they have Chloe. I find it extremely annoying. Teri Hatcher I would say too was a great Lois Lane.

I think Clark/Superman has always been attracted to Lois's traits and personality rather than just her surface beauty.

Kristen Dunst was horrible as MJ. Famke Jenssen was an excellent Jean Grey, and if this discussion was stemmed from Blake Lively then she is one of the few elements in this movie that makes me nervous. I'll admit that.

I'd agree. Hatcher would probably be the definitive, pretty much perfect, Lois Lane in live-action media. Beautiful woman and she had the right blend of that raised-by-a career military man and femininity spunk to her.

I think Durance does, mostly, okay on Smallville. I actually like her better now than I did over her first few seasons where the military brat/tomboy angle was played up way too much. Once they softened her a bit, and certainly died her hair a more brunette/brownish/blackish color she became a better Lois. I've little problems with her right now and infact think she's doing better now than ever now that she's taken in the "Chloe role" a bit.

But Hatcher? Probably right now I'd say she's the best Lois Lane since Noel Neill.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Heck, it's not like Noel Neill was the second coming of Greta Garbo either.

Actually, she was surprisingly attractive in the Kirk Alyn serials, once you look past the giant hats. By the time of the series she had moved more into "cute" territory.

Kate Bosworth was pretty enough, but way too bland and young-looking to be a good Lois.

Actually, the other qualities made it impossible for me to call her "pretty." She looked like a little girl playing dress-up. Then when they made her a mother and pulitzer prize winner, it was just impossible to take anything about her seriously.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I didn't mind parts of Kate's portrayal I just didn't buy that she was supposed to be the Margot Lois.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I saw the trailer on an IMAX screen this evening before Harry Potter (and now that Silver Spring has an IMAX theater, they can just put a glass dome over the neighborhood for all that I care - I'll never venture out). It absolutely works, it's gorgeous and it's perfectly Green Lantern. The only moment that's dicey is indeed the "I know, right?!" shot.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I saw the trailer on a regular screen (but my first time seeing it in theaters), and I have to agree with Dennis, the suit looked a lot better there, except for the "I know, right?" scene. I think it'll be fine when we see it next summer. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks in 3D.
