I am not a green lantern reader, and I am only vaguely familiar with the backstory.
And, while cool looking in spots, the trailer just seems to be lacking something to make it EPIC. It seems to go there, but then we have slapstick again. It starts out bad, gets great in the middle, and then goes stupid at the end. (not a good idea - trailers like this should leave you with a WOW image)
I'm not sure how well this will go over with the general public.

I think it looks great. Not really a fan of how Hector Hammond looks, like the ring's design. I think this is going to be huge at the box office next year.

^ The blonde at the start of the trailer? No idea. Remember too that this is just the first trailer, we've yet to see the Guardians, really any of the Corps, Angela Basset is Amanda Waller in this movie. There's still tons of stuff that they've not revealed yet. I understand everyone's beef with the costume but haven't we all accepted by now that we're never gonna get a perfect comic book costume? Every single movie that comes and goes there is always going to be a contingent of fans that aren't happy with the costume. As much as I get that, I try not to let that aspect bother me when enjoying the movie.

They might come to regret the CG suit decision - unless the improve it significantly. And mute the color a bit. Right now it looks more like a cartoon overlay.
Another concern is that the villains (as far as we can see in the trailer) all seem to have the grotesque mutant look. So pretty = good, ugly = bad? Didn't that kind of simplicity go out of style?
I'm still very interested, but faaar from blown away.

The GL costumes are bright green in the comics. Whether or not the decision is a good one, they're pretty damned faithful to the original designs in the movie.
People yammer endlessly and tiresomely about the "smurfs" in Avatar, and it hasn't had any impact on the well-deserved popularity and success of the film.
One of the really nice visual things here is that the other Lanterns are nearly perfect realizations of the characters from the comics - Tomar-Re, Kilowog, and especially Sinestro. The filmmakers didn't shy away from any of that. And any suggestion that the "good guys" like Tomar and Kilowog are "prettier" than Hammond - who is the only bad guy I think we see in this trailer - is pretty goofy.
This tracks the script that's floating around pretty closely - they make Hal out a little less of a douche than he was in that draft, but that's about it. And that script is a really good script for a GL movie.
