Green Lantern (2011)

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I'll admit that the full trailer is better. Loved the shots with the other Lanterns. But I'm still a bit concerned. The costume is a big deal. Hollywood always seems to "go black leather" when changing most heroes costumes. Here comes a hero with the color black already in the costume and they don't use it. Most Illogical! :)

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I saw one promo in which GL said: "No matter how bad things get, there's always something good just over the horizon."

Good sentiment. But it's utter bullshit from a fighter pilot dude who leaves behind one hot chick in his bed to go skyriding with another. So even the promo's "profound" moments came across as ridiculously cheesy as the CGI.

So far: FAIL.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Yeah, because those juxtaposed images and dialogue in a trailer are the entire story of the movie and completely represent who the guy is.

That "logic" FAILs.

I've read the script. I know how all this fits together. WIN.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I read the first draft of the script as well and while it went through re-writes that lifted material from "Green Lantern: Secret Origin" it seems from what I saw in the trailer that quite a bit remained, at least the core of that first draft. I quite enjoyed the script actually.

Well, if you were as astute with posts as you were with scripts, you'll notice that I said, "So far." You see, not everyone reads the scripts before watching the trailers. Some of us actually base our decisions on whether or not to see a film based on the film's promotion. And the decision to juxtapose the dialogue I quoted with the images I mentioned is, in fact, a FAIL for me. Considering how cartoonishly shallow the visuals are, the promo material seems equally shallow. Perhaps the script reveals some hidden depth of character and theme. But none of that is apparent in the promos I've seen "so far."

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I saw the trailer here. As posted a few pages back.

I think it looks awesome and I can't to see it. :)

[edit] I am not sure about Blake Lively though.

Gossip Girl = CEO of major aircraft testing company.

Nahhh. Not feeling it.

Otherwise the movie looks great... so far.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Yeah, I was never for Blake Lively when she was cast, and she didn't really impress me in that trailer. In some circles, she's being described as "Blake Lifeless" which is a pretty apt nickname if you ask me.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

WB has a track record for casting young actresses that obviously can not support their characters professions

Kate Bosworth as a seasoned Lois Lane?

Katie Holmes as lawyer?

And now Lively as a CEO

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Katie Holmes in Batman Begins was one of the things I liked about it and was disappointed when they recast that character in TDK which I didn't enjoy as much as BB.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

Does anyone get a Iron Man vibe from the glowly chest thing that GL has on his costume? :rommie:

I'm getting a third-rate, cheesy bargain basement, low-brow Iron Man rip-off vibe from the whole package, sorry to say.

Only because of her Daddy I'm sure.

It looks good so far. And I'm sure the CG uniform will look even better when the film is released. I think the CG shots of Iron Man in the trailers didn't look so hot either but in the final product they were improved quite a bit.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I think it looks pretty good. My one query is that what appears to be the climax - and I could totally have the wrong end of the stick - appears to be a bog-standard 'city endangered by supervillain' scenario, when I was hoping for outer space action. But this is only a teaser trailer and maybe they're holding back the real action for closer to the release.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

It looks ok. Got me interested in seeing it though I'm curious to hear what my brother will say about it since he's a huge GL fan.

The cgi is not really worth crying about since it's more than likely unfinished. I still remember the...outrage over the cg when the first Avatar trailer came out to name one example.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

If I'd fallen into a coma after I saw T2 in 1991 and I woke up today...I think I'd expect CG to look a little better. I know it's not a fair comparison going by how many effects shots this movie has and all the movement and camera angle changes they can do now (in T2 and Jurassic Park I think the camera was static every time an effect was on screen) but I just go by my eyes and say it looks wonky.

Re: Green Lantern E.T. Spot!!!

I had no problems with the Superman Returns costume, it was a good looking fabric that wasn't just spandex. I don't see why they couldn't use a material like that with a darker green color and black.
