Green Arrow (CW)

I can definitely understand starting over. Too much baggage from Smallville. Not to mention the episode where Ollie was dressed as a showgirl is best forgotten! It's better to start over.

Though I have no idea why they're not calling him Green Arrow. He's a well-established superhero...you don't change his name. Arrow by itself sounds dumb...you need the full name for it to sound better. Also, why Starling City and not Star City?

To avoid confusion with Green Lantern and Green Hornet? That sounds silly to us lifelong comix fans, but, trust me, my own neighbors can't keep them straight. "Well-established" is a relative term.

And do know that he's not called "Green Arrow" in the show? Maybe "Arrow" is just the title.

Yeah, you'd think they'd go with an already established, and I believe quite popular version of the character instead of starting from scratch.

Too much baggage and continuity. Wasn't Oliver actually married to Chloe by the end of Smallville? So you'd have to explain where Allison Mack is and why Oliver has a new love interest. Plus, you'd have fans constantly wondering when Clark or Lex or the rest of the Super Friends gang were going to show up.

Better to start over with a clean slate.
I guess I can see that.
I'm wondering if the more realistic take on the mythos means Dinah/Laurel won't have her Canary Cry or the black leather and fishnets?

Trailer looks interesting, i will give it a shot, glad there is no smallville influence, atleast it wont take 10 seasons of deciding if he should don the hood and the bow! :rommie:

Looks like Ollie is shaking up in the Luthor mansion again.
yeah why did they do that? I know it was something else before it was the Luthor Mansion, but really the show should be looking to set its own tone, it wont do that reusing elements of Smallville.

I got so disconnected from Smallville that if no one had said it was Luthor's place I wouldn't have known.
However, now that I know I don't guess it bothers me.

I'll try this out for a few episodes time permitting.

The more I see of this the better it looks. I've gone from mildly curious to looks pretty good to I want to see this NOW!

I agree. I mean, I get why they did it. In fact it's entirely possible that the whole idea originated out of discussion on how to best use the left over SV sets.

But you're right; the thing does just strike a little too close to the old. I liked Hartley-Ollie more than most, but I still think it might be best for them to cut all and any ties to the predecessor if possible.

Of course this is just a pilot, so it's entirely possible they build whole new sets if the show is green lighted.

The house was the X-Man mansion before it was Luthor's so it can be Ollie's before it becomes Tony Stark's or Bruce Wayne's.

The clips look fine, but why retool the character to the point of changing his name? Why not just call him Green Arrow?

Despite having a Green Arrow on SV go by that name perhaps they are actually giving audiences some credit in name association.
Thus trying to distance from any confusion with:
Green Hornet
Green Lantern

Both of which were not stellar?
Green descriptive=Lower quality

Just a guess.

This is a real issue. Us hardcore comix fans can tell them apart, but the average person? Heck, my own next-door neighbor gets Green Hornet and Green Lantern mixed up. So why throw another "Green Comic-Book Guy" at them?

"Green Arrow? He's gay now, right? I think I heard something about that . . . ."

In fact the local drive-time DJs were talking here just last week about "Green Hornet coming out as gay" in DC comics.
