Green Arrow (CW)

Um, I hope the show's a bit more fun than the preview lets on. I don't have much interest in seeing a dour, overly serious TV series... about a guy with a bow and arrow.

Finally saw that teaser trailer. Work filter issues earlier.

It felt more like a sample than a tease. When I'm teased, I want more right away.
When I get a sample often times I try something else and forget the sample.
This felt like a sample as of now imo.

I personally would've liked to have seen them connect this series to Smallville and use Justin Hartley in the role of Oliver Queen, but that trailer and the teaser preview have piqued my interest enough to get me to check out at least a few episodes.

Yeah, you'd think they'd go with an already established, and I believe quite popular version of the character instead of starting from scratch.

Because than it would only be viewed by fans! Which saw its audience size diminish a LOT By the end,

If they made this a Smallville spinoff they'd be burdened with 10 seasons of continuity and since none of these people were involved with Smallville that would be a daunting task. The time do do a Smallville Green Arrow spinoff was 3 - 4 years ago.

Agreed, doing a Smallville spin-off at this point would be madness. And that trailer, oddly, doesn't totally suck. The lead looks a lot gruffer and bad-assier than Justin whoseywhatsits, too.

Justin Hartley felt like a male model dressing up like a vigilante for Halloween. This guys seems like he could have really survived all that time alone on the island. Giving him the strength and will to fight crime with a bow and arrows!

^ The Smallville people were probably focused on casting someone who wouldn't out-macho Welling. :p

Too much baggage and continuity. Wasn't Oliver actually married to Chloe by the end of Smallville? So you'd have to explain where Allison Mack is and why Oliver has a new love interest. Plus, you'd have fans constantly wondering when Clark or Lex or the rest of the Super Friends gang were going to show up.

Better to start over with a clean slate.

Not that much a stretch. DC and Marvel have been making heavy use of alternate realities for decades. So, this new one fits in a lot better than Trek09 or nuBSG.

If Arrow is stuck fighting street level crime or mob bosses for a season then this show will fail. Ollie is not known for his extensive rougues gallery so this would be a great opportunity to perhaps introduce the League Of Assassins or something similiar to expand the Arrows world.

I can definitely understand starting over. Too much baggage from Smallville. Not to mention the episode where Ollie was dressed as a showgirl is best forgotten! It's better to start over.

Though I have no idea why they're not calling him Green Arrow. He's a well-established superhero...you don't change his name. Arrow by itself sounds dumb...you need the full name for it to sound better. Also, why Starling City and not Star City?
