Then Logan was your man, huh ? Oh but no, he didn't make any money. Those guys were inundated with stories for years that's all. So then you liked STIV the best because it made the most money ? The decline is more than evident. I hope it will change esp since they're pouring so much money into this movie it is like the biggest movie ever produced or something.

Who says "Logan was my man"? (I'm even dubious about his "fan credentials") I wasn't keen on TNG films long before that, simply because that whole era rubbed me the wrong way.

No I don't like Trek IV cause it made the most money... but I won't pretend it wasn't a success or that Star Trek isn't a business venture.

Like I said, I hope "Star Trek" "bombs" as bad as "Transformers" - the franchise will be in a better place then. If something is wonderful scifi no one goes to see... well that's going to amount to not much in the end. Can't keep Star Trek alive on artistic idealism.

^^xortex, I'll enter nitpick mode here and quote your words: "I think were disappointed with the mundane highly derivative plot."

How is that not a claim of poor writing? [/quote

It's possible to have a well written bad story.

That's what it is built on, unless you're making sausages.

No its not, it was originally conceived of to fill an open time slot in the tv schedule. A young producer came along, had an idea that might fill it. Luckily on his second chance at bat they gave the green light - his batting average before or since hasn't been so good.

Trek first and foremost is a business venture like any other tv show/comic/or novel (writers like to eat you know?) . Took me awhile when I was a young idealist Trek fan to come to terms with this notion, but I have.

One assumes, even sausage makers take pride in their work... you better hope so if your gonna eat it...

We do not want the high and noble Star Trek to be put in the hands of the chattering classes.
