Greatest One-Shot Villain in Dr. Who?

How about Magnus Greel? He was pretty loathsome in all respects - he butchered the inhabitants of Brisbane, apparently, in the year 5000, and by the time he reached Victorian London he'd turned into a misogynistic cannibalistic ghoul.

Sutekh, for being one of the few villains who could bring Tom Baker's formidable 4th Dr to his knees, and for that speech - 'Evil? Your evil is my good. I am Sutekh the Destroyer - where I tread I leave only dust, and darkness. I find that good.'

And Tobias Vaughn - Kevin Stoney was so wonderfully arch, and I loved the way he used to drawl out his henchman Packard's name with total disdain.

Gabriel Woolf's performance as Sutekh was fantastic. I also recommend the "Oh Mummy" extra on the Pyramids of Mars DVD.

I'd like to add the Monk to the list, but since he appeared in two stories, I guess he doesn't qualify.

Anthony Head was pretty fun from what I remember.

Definately. I still think they should have offered him the Master gig.

"The Long Game" was mostly just OK-ish, but I really dug Simon Pegg's Editor. From S2 everybody mentioned Mr. Finch and the Krillitanes, but Satan was pretty good as well (he was voiced by Woolf). S3 had Family of Blood. S4 had the mysterious entity from "Midnight". S5 had the really slimey Dream Lord, who may make a return. And there was House from S6.

Agreed. Those were some other great villains. Son of Mine was great at being so creepy.

The unseen consciousness posessing everyone in "Midnight" joins the ranks of Sutekh as being one of the few villains to bring the Doctor to his knees and really scare the crap out of him.

The Big Finish audio adventures have provided us with some great villains too.

Sir Isaac Newton (David Warner) subjects the 5th Doctor & Nyssa to a grueling religious inquisition in "Circular Time."

Then there was the sound monster in "Scherzo," who wasn't really evil but had to kill the 8th Doctor & Charley in order to reach the next stage in its own evolution.

Then there's Paul McGann as the Editor in the totalitarian dystopia of "The Natural History of Fear." No other actor can go dark side quite as convincingly as McGann.

For me my favourite one shot was the War Lord from "war games".

My favourite of Philip Madoc's performances. Only came in half way but stole the show.

I finally got to see parts of that story. Yes, he was good there, but it does bring to mind another one-shot -- actually, two.

Dr. Mehendri Solon, from "The Brain of Morbius," and of course, the former Time Lord of the First Rank, title character, who became Chop Suey The Galactic Emperor. :)
