Okay - first and foremost I want to encourage you to read my Star Trek Hunter trilogy (currently being published here, but also available on Archive of Our Own, AdAstra and FanFiction.net). But there are some other incredibly creative Trek fanfics you really should check out on these other sites. If you do go out and read some of these, please be sure to comment and let the authors know I sent you.

    1. To See Again The Stars of Home (in Progress)
    Author: greatbirdofthegalaxy
    Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25537315/chapters/61962790
Synopsis: What would have happened if, instead of going along with the defeated Romulan commander's wishes at the end of TOS: Balance of Terror, Captain Kirk had beamed him off his disintegrating starship after all? Is he a prisoner, a refugee, a hostage? What can the future possibly hold for Commander Keras now? Will it blow up into a diplomatic incident, pushing the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire back towards war? But most of all - what possessed Kirk to save his mortal rival in the first place?

Critique: This is a fantastic deep dive into the Romulan spirit through the POV of Keras as Kirk and his crew come to understand and admire their enemy. Complicated by a mutiny of junior officers who are outraged at Kirk's treatment of their prisoner and want him executed. First - TOS Kirk learning to like a Romulan. Second - A mutiny against Captain Kirk? This story shows us the real heroic Kirk that too many fans fail to derive from the original series - a man of mercy and understanding.

    2. Kahs-wan Ritual (Complete)
    Author: Solasnagreine
    Link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13780545/1/Kahs-wan-Ritual
Synopsis: S'chn T'gai Avarak of Vulcan, son of Sordd, son of Skon, son of Solkar undergoes his Kahs-wan. Side story to Into the Deeps. I don't think you need to have read 'Into the Deeps' to make sense of this :-)

Critique: I am more than a little biased as Solas tapped me to serve as her creative consultant for this story. This is a deep dive into Vulcan culture, psychology and physiology - a coming of age ritual that is much more than a test - it's a necessary transformation for juvenile vulcans to make it possible for them to achieve the emotional control to safely integrate into vulcan society as independent adults. While this is a side story to Solas' love story about Avarak's father and (human) stepmother, it is an amazing work of science fiction. I also recommend In The Deeps, which is a very endearing love story and particularly enjoyable as Solas writes children very well. Baby Spock just jumps off the page...

    3. Star Trek Parks and Recreation (Complete)
    Author: Toaster Bonanza
    Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/20444684/chapters/48506237
Synopsis: The year is 2320 and there has been a long stretch of peace for the Federation, leaving local governments to finally do all the public works projects that kept going on hold. A minor diplomatic complex on Earth, historic for being the first built in the region after the Federation's founding, houses consuls from the founding planets and four other worlds. The building is in need of updating, something the consuls and the Earth administrators have wanted for years.

However! The consuls can't agree on anything and have their own weird, complex relationships between each other and their staff, driving off every project manager. So it is up to a young Human post-doc in landscape architecture and a middle-aged divorced Vulcan building architect to go way outside their element and make these people agree on something. Will they succeed? Are Deltans afraid of hail? Does the landscape architect think the building architect is a snack? Come for the aliens, stay for the poetry!

Critique: There is some (extremely well-written and quite arousing) erotica in this story, but that's limited to only a few chapters that you can skip over if you're not ready for that stuff... A love story between the main character - a human female Muslim architect and a vulcan master-builder. This one is more of a deep dive into what the future might (hopefully) hold in particular for Muslim women as Dr. Aafia Jalal is a very strong and completely liberated woman very much in charge of her own life. There's some great sci-fi in this story, particularly about differences in color perception as well as cultural differences. Aafia actually has to teach her builder how to differentiate among colors that for him are the same because he only has one word for the entire group of colors... (which is a great metaphor for what's going on with every character in the story.)

Toaster is a very prolific writer and she has published quite a few stories in other formats.

    4. Captain's Honor (in progress)
    Author: Kehlan
    Link: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/11789286/1/Captain-s-Honour
Synopsis: (Book 1) 2375. A Federation and Klingon Ship must work together in the final months of the Dominion War. But as Captain James Mackenzie of the USS Endeavour and Captain Krang of the IKC Hegh'Ta work side by side to destroy the Dominion, tragedy strikes and a mystery unravels. (Book 2) Krang is put on trial for the events of the past. Who is Krang really and what is he hiding?

Critique: You can tell from Kehlan's spelling that she is a British author. Another very prolific writer. This story is a deep dive into Klingon culture. Kehlan is particularly good about writing klingons that are believably intelligent, not too honorable or too despicable and a number of very different klingon personalities. She does an amazing job of writing a takeover of 1990's Earth by time-traveling 23rd Century Klingons and Captain Kirk and Security Captain Krang have to work together to clean up the mess... And Kehlan manages to integrate this story seamlessly into Trek canon - which is quite a trick. It is also, like the other offerings by female writers in this list, a love story - in this case between the widow of an executed anti-klingon terrorist and the commander of the Klingon occupation force (again, she pulls off a real feat of writing to make that believable...)

So, please read Star Trek Hunter and all the great FanFic by the writers of United Trek as well as the other writers on this forum... But don't miss out on these four amazing science fiction stories and be sure to promote female Trek FanFic writers...
