Re: Grade SG-A – Ghost in the Machine - (SPOILERS)

Wow, where is everyone? Are thiese online and is everyone just downloading them? Anyway...

Good episode and some resolution to the Weir as replicator storyline. I loved seeing FRAN again but I wish it could have been Torri Higginson but the suits haven't really treat her right so I don't blame her if she turned it down if she was even offered. Good to see Ronin showing his value and a cold ending.

The running gag with Woolsey getting locked out/in is funny but painful, I feel bad for him in a way I never did with say Louis in Ghostbusters.

Re: Grade SG-A – Ghost in the Machine - (SPOILERS)

I gave it an "excellent" but it was really somewhere between an "Excellent" and an "Above Average". I thought it was pretty good. I liked how it was a replicator story that wasn't really a replicator story. I do think it lagged in the middle when the "bad" replicator ran away to go do...something (did they really even explain what he was up to other than wanting to keep his machine body?). The ending was really really dark. Did not see that coming. So are they dead? I would imagine not as they are machines. My guess is that they are just frozen in space there. I guess it leaves it open if the writers every want to bring these characters back.

I do think the episode would have been better if TH returned, but oh well. I do give props to the actress playing Fran. She brought a lot of TH's mannerisms in her delivery. I could really see that being TH.

Re: Grade SG-A – Ghost in the Machine - (SPOILERS)

I give it an above average. I liked the ending but I'm sick and tired of replicators.

Oh for the love of... :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

I'm getting pretty tired of SG:A episodes that start off okay then descend into having the characters just go through all the same motions they have before. Gee, think it'll be a good idea to take a a group of replicators that might very well be capable of becoming allies and dump them in deep space so they won't ever possibly be a threat to you? Yeah, that's never backfired before. Now if they ever do escape, Atlantis is guaranteed that they'll so pissed they'll be a threat. Brilliant!

But the VFX were gorgeous this week, especially in the opening sequence. Puddle Jumper histting a spacegate: beautiful. :techman:

I'll go with above average, just 'cause last season & this season have really lowered the average for the series.

Didn't care much for Woolsey gettin' stranded. Made me wonder, "Why? What's the point?"

Didn't know that spacegates had little boosters on 'em to keep 'em aligned. When did that happen?

How does hittin' a gate make the jumper fall faster?

Really wish Torri had been brought back, 'cause the Weir POV shots for the flashbacks were kind of dumb.

Still, F.R.A.N., I like her.

I did like the endin', at least. That was cool.

And nice to know Woolsey has a pair.

How does hittin' a gate make the jumper fall faster?

Orbits are a balance between your forward velocity and gravity that will pull you straight down. Too slow and gravity will pull down you, too fast and you'll fly away. When the puddle jumper hit the gate, conservation of energy would dictate that the puddle jumper would lose some velocity. So, gravity would start pulling it down. But as gravity pulls you down, you lose altitude but would gain velocity by the conservation of energy. This is what McKay meant when he said that the orbit was decaying and they would burn up in the atmosphere.

Did Brent fall into the abyss?
Brent was moving a week or so ago. Not like one of us not to unpack and set up the computer before even using the new bathroom for the first time.

I don't want to be a nputs but this episode was pretty much a rehash of other episodes. Yeah, the opening sequence with the gate was pretty and it's always good to see Fran. Although her lions getting warm when seeing Shep was a little awkward. He didn't feel right about it either.

Rodney telling Zelinka to be quiet was season 1 stuff. Rodney has/had grown beyond that. But once in a while they have to revert him.

I feel bad being so negative about this season. I probably shouldn't have even posted this.

Beautiful planet CGI shot.

Anyway, I thought the whole Fran thing was a bit cheap. When Higginson turned down the chance to reprise her role, they should have just abandoned the episode entirely.
I mean, they tried to recreate the character with that scene where she talks to Teyla about her child, but it just looked awkward.
Also, they really need to calm down with the "soldiers point guns at people who move" shots. It's almost as if everytime someone breathes, the soldiers in the background start pointing guns around.

You know, as for the episode itself. I'm just fairly indifferent. All I hope is that this means that a Ford episode will come soon. Maybe in Season 8. :p

One thing I just completely forgot though... Replicators can't survive in space? I thought they could?

Heart-rending ending, Woolsey finally shows leadership qualities... can't fault it.

So are the atlantis team ever going to be able to dial that space-gate and retrieve Wier?

Excellent.

Best episode of SG:A in a very, very long time. Michelle Morgan hit the performance perfectly. She had me believing she was Torri Higginson's Elizabeth Weir. And that's damned difficult to do. This show has really had a massive gaping hole in it without Weir, but it evolved into something else without her. Not saying thats good or bad, just that it's happened. I still analogize it to SG-1 losing Daniel Jackson. There's a level of heart in Weir that nobody has been able to fill in. The resolution was absolutely in character, and while there's closure on the character, the door's not closed completely. While I don't think we should see her again, because this closure felt right and worked, I don't think I'd object too loudly if we did.

While I'd have preferred to see Torri back one more time, the workaround for it actually worked.

And I loved the little bone thrown at the shippers in there, too. Nicely done. :)

Excellent and probably the best episode since the last major Replicator storyline back in season 4 (4x11). It would of been even better, if Tori had decided to come back but I understand her reasons why she did not but FRAN did a great job anyway.

Woosley grow some major balls and I think thats a huge sign of the writers getting things right at last with the leader of Atlantis ever since Weir left. I know people complain about the Replicator storylines but the majorty of the ones used in SG-A seem to get good grades from critics and fans.

Season 5 is on track :techman:...reading some reviews on here though WTF does SG-A have do to, to get a decent reception (am seeing good grades in the pool but the comments don't reflect that)

oh yeah dump them in deep space so that can be found by someone who might like to have them has allies against atlantis,,'
i can see this so happening if the show last long enoungh.

I think the writers might leave it now with the Asurans with Atlantis most likely ending after any 6th season. Time to focus on the Wraith/Michael and any uniting the Pegasus Galaxy. Also I wouldn't be surprised if something in the Atlantis database sets the groundwork for STARGATE UNIVERSE.

Unlikely as TPTB have said that Universe is going to be completely separate from SG-1 and Atlantis, as opposed to a spin-off the way Atlantis was spun from SG-1.

TBPH I wish they would focus 100% on SG-A and giving the franchise a rest afterwards.

But what was the alternative? Having a bunch of human form replicators on the loose was not a good idea. We saw what happened with that one replicator who did not want a human body.

And it was Weir's idea. She wanted to neutralize herself and her fellow replicators to make sure they did not cause Atlantis anymore problems in the future.

^ Dumping them in space is a quick fix, but I don't see why they have to leave them there. Send out a Puddle Jumper or a 304 and then hurl all them into a sun. I wonder if in their frozen state if ARGs would work against them again...or an asgard beam weapon or drone should wipe out the nanites as well.
