How do you rate Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes?

So is the conversation about doing another Apes movie very much alive?

To be totally honest, I have no idea what’s going on with that. Wes and I have talked about where to go with it. And with Joe [Hartwick Jr.], Wes’ wonderful producer. And with Travis Jeffery and Lydia Peckham, who played Anaya and Soona. We’ve all sort of talked about stuff. Every so often, I’ll see Kevin Durand and we’ll talk about the Proximus influence of it all. But in terms of actual movement, I have no idea. So, hopefully. I really hope it happens. We all want it to.
Here's a post I saw on Instagram regarding the subject: as-yet-untitled fifth installment in the rebooted PLANET OF THE APE film series doesn't yet have a firm release date. 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell confirmed the film was in development last October. Director Wes Ball said on the Ape Nation YouTube channel earlier this year that the studio "would love to have [the next film] released in 2027," but that there's "no rush" and that the filmmakers want to "tell the story right" and plan the second and third installments simultaneously.

It takes time to train those apes. ;)

I guess the question is, do you keep the story in the same timeframe as Kingdom, or do you jump forward again and show Ape civilization progression.

Normally I'd say the latter but considering the climactic reveal about the state of some humans (and the casting of Dichen Lachman in a tiny role), I'd say the former is more likely.

With the exception of the second installment of the new reboot series, no film in the series has grossed over $500 million. The third film grossed $490 million, and the fourth film grossed $397 million. The fifth film's budget shouldn't exceed $100 million, as box office revenues often drop from film to film.

I guess the question is, do you keep the story in the same timeframe as Kingdom, or do you jump forward again and show Ape civilization progression.
If all goes according to plan, they plan to make a nine-film series. They'll likely focus on the era when apes became more like humans in films 7, 8, and 9.

I've never read or heard it was supposed to be nine films.
In fact, had Rupert Wyatt, stayed on as director after the first film, according to him from interviews at the time, the second film would have immediately jumped to 3978 in the days leading up to Taylor's arrival, and, if there had been a third film, it would have been a retelling of POTA.
And "Kingdom" didn't start off as a POTA film. It was a script reworked to fit the POTA universe when the studio and the writers noticed the similarities between their script and the universe established with the Caesar trilogy.

Wikipedia says nothing of this.

How far out are you plotting these movies?

JAFFA
With Kingdom, we really feel like we’ve set the foundation for at least two more movies with these characters. But we’ll see. A lot of it depends on the audience’s reaction, too.

SILVER When you first came up with this idea, the Apes franchise way back, you saw nine movies. We thought, “This is crazy ambitious.” But here we are. We’re at four.

It's not in the Wiki entry. It's in TV Tropes under "What Could Have Been". It started off as another movie before being reworked as the fourth film in the rebooted POTA trilogy.
There's no mention of that in the section you cited that I can see. The word Kingdom is not listed at all.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes did start out as unintended as a Planet of the Apes movie though....is that what you're looking at/thinking of?

You're gonna have to link me then because I searched for the word Kingdom and got bupkis.

Please. :)

Edit: Unrelated-ish, but I just had a look at the page dedicated solely to Kingdom. Boy, they sure do try and squeeze anything that could remotely be referred to as a trope, don't they? Yikes.

I was hoping for a little more specificity. :D

I searched for "What Could Have Been" on that page. Nothing. "Written", nothing.
Wherever the claim is in that long page of stuff, I can't find it.

Thank you. No wonder word searching didn't bring it up. :)

That's not the same as what was being claimed by @DarrenTR1970 upthread though.
The claim was that it started out as an unrelated script which got turned into a POTA film.
