Good Deanna Troi moments

It's not a "useful" moment, but her talking to Data at the end of Tin Man is good too, and material for Troi/Data shippers (an intriguing idea - an empath and an 'emotionless' android who nevertheless she 'gets'... also frightening given that Lore was interested in her in cut scenes from Descent).

I agree in theory, but the test itself was deeply stupid. "Oh no, I have to tell a hologram to 'kill' himself."
Very true! I wish they'd found more effective plot mechanics for that resolution. Trek always struggled every time they tried to show us these kinds of tests. Still, I think the character work is delightful. As Marina Sirtis has said in so many interviews, Deanna really did get better when they put her in the regular uniform -- they never would have thought of this story for jumpsuit Troi.

I would have gotten a kick out of seeing her take the Kobayashi Maru simulation, which this stupid test was obviously supposed to be a lame-ass tremendously watered-down callback to.
The only way this could have worked effectively would have been if Troi had been moved to the Holodeck without her knowledge, or such.

My favorite episode with her is Face of the Enemy. When she screams at the Sub-Commander and tells him she is going to have him ejected into space if he doesn't do what she says. The definition of a women scorned.
There is a glaring difference in her character between Face of the Enemy and Disaster. I'm not really sure if it was the writers or Sirtis that screwed this up but both situations were dangerous and required quick thinking and a command attitude. In Face of the Enemy she is great but in Disaster its like she's a 10 year old girl who has no clue what is going on. I don't it.

In "Disaster", she is in a dangerous situation, but she is in what has basically been her home for years, and is surrounded by colleagues and friends. She has a support system, despite being rather childlike in the commanding area.

She is forced to basically be grown up and adapt. This was probably her best episode of the series.

Haha ya. Out of all the unflattering moments in this episode.. Scary as it was seeing dear Capt full frontal (though u could always laugh with Madred that he has a BDSM thing!) I disagree with Jellico strongly. attribute to the "for times sake" of the show. (Lets start a non relevant TNG ramblings thread..!) If I were her I wouldve gotten Nechayev on the line ASAP. Couldve even gotten him to authorize rescue mission - would show his bad demeanour as Capt.(&his eyes are clearly in the wrong places!!) Either Troi has been fouling the dress code or he has no right to even suggest that. (speaking as someone who put a certain hair dress code top story here in Toronto!!!)

Rewatched Face of the Enemy yesterday. Hadn't seen it for a very long time. Don't know why, since it's a very good episode, I guess it just slipped between the cracks.
Must have been enjoyable for Sirtis as a rare opportunity to get to play a different role. And even though it is depicted as a harrowing adventure for Deanna Troi, I wouldn't be surprised if even she could enjoy at some subconscious level stretching those parts of her personality that seemed to get a rare workout otherwise.
Though I must say the episode ends on a somewhat unsatisfactory note. It isn't entirely clear to me how her escape, (and of those high-level Romulan defectors) will make future rescue operations easier (I suppose those defectors come with information but surely the Romulan government would compensate for that). Also, that commander Toreth, who is portrayed as an honest Romulan and someone you can sympathise with to a certain extent (even though she wanted to destroy the Enterprise), got the shittier end of the dealings and probably had to face severe retribution back home (OK, that's ignoring the sacrifice of N'vek, but at least he had chosen to participate in all this).

Every time a Trek actress is put in a uniform instead of a ridiculous catsuit you can still see that she is a woman with breasts and curves, but she is also a professional and can be addressed and treated as such. Lets hope that whatever incarnation Trek is in from now on that they understand that putting a woman in a uniform is always a far better way of portraying her!
